I'm usually reasonably perceptive; here I'm confused. This is either hilarious or scary as hell. Maybe I missed something while scanning it.
Okay, I missed something (it's a joke of course. A little early in the morning for me.)However, when perusing what's said throughout the site, one gets a little queasy.

Okay, now that I'm awake and popped three aspirins to dull the pain from JT yesterday, it's obvious what we have here; however, scanning what's given, one begins to realize just how far out many have become vis a vis Obama. He is messianic for many. Nothing against Obama here because he's not responsible for how all these people react to him. He's very effective as a campaigner for a set of voters. But, let's face it, much of this ain't healthy. If he loses at the brokered convention or in the general election, a lot of people might go bonkers.

Yes,I think you are, as you suggest, "confused".
This past week you started a thread with the title "Obama's speech does not cut it", and a good 100 people who replied clearly saw your confusion and strongly disagreed with your statement. We are trying to help you out here. Now you start a new thread and show a link to a pro Obama web site, and you say you just don't get it. The problem is your message, Woody. You are trying real hard to find ways to get people here to agree with your obvious right wing conservative political views. The problem is that most Americans have had a bellyful of the ignorance and hypocracy of conservatism the past seven years.
Here's a news flash Woody, Obama is for real and will wipe the floor with John McCain in November. Try to "get" that.

Hey, that's great, then we can get four to eight years of the hypocrisy of liberalism. I for one welcome our new messiah overlord.

I hear ya LEB.
However, we have two huge factors coming into play in November.
One is turnout. A poll is only that, and does not take into acount voter turnout, and that has been a record levels for Democratic turnout through the primaries.
Second is the "independant" or non party affiliated voter.
These are the swing voters all the millions are spent on to sway their votes, and the great news is that in deep polling of these people, they now say they are more likely to vote for a Demoocrat than a Republican by an astounding seven out of 10, the highest ratio since this swing voter analysis was started over 40 years ago. These people showed up in the 06 election and were the cause of both the Senate and House going to the Democrats, in addition to many state Governorships and state wide congressional races. It is not just the war in Iraq, it is people watching in real time the shocking ignorance and judgement of a real live conservative president. The shift is generational and profound. The country is turning more to the left of center on almost all social issues, including abortion rights. Even those who consider themself to be fiscally conservative are blanching at the idea of both tax cuts AND a war at the same time, driving the deficet to upseen levels,
Conservativsm has been proven wrong, and people are finally getting it. The voters today are younger and much better educated than in the past, and that alone spells the death bell for conservatism, which has always relied on simplicity of reasoning and instilling fear to attract "stupid" voters.

Assuming that the recession continues, and as seems likely grows worse, the Republicans will be wiped out in November. The silent majority to whom LEB refers do pay attention to things like the economy - if they're economically hurting, they'll punish whoever's in power. Think 1932. The general incompetence and corruption of the administration, its disdain for the constitution, and its foreign 'policy' will just be icing on the cake.

Norton,
Wake up. Obama took a negative hit from his relationship with the pastor, period.
Many of his supporters have fallen headfirst into an irrational worship of the guy. Obsessions are not healthy. This does not deny the possibility that Obama would make a good president, but it does point out that there are a lot of screwy people out there supporting him for all the wrong reasons.

I agree with Woody's comments, and those of jstan in other threads. Let's talk about the issues, not largely irrelevant fluff. Although you can be sure that the Republican swift boaters are even now searching for anything which they can use to raise a 'character' issue about Obama.
The fact is that all U.S. presidents, and plausible candidates, have sometimes unsavoury associates, and are somewhat compromised by fundraising if nothing else. Choir boys need not apply.
Woody (2000): "Many of his supporters have fallen headfirst into an irrational worship of the guy. Obsessions are not healthy. This does not deny the possibility that Shrub would make a good president, but it does point out that there are a lot of screwy people out there supporting him for all the wrong reasons."
LEB edit: The Republican campaign will undoubtedly be as dirty as can be. They'll do whatever they can to ensure that Obama and Clinton fight it out right into August. They'll also use Obama's image wherever they can - depending on the gut reaction of far too many white voters to a youngish black man. They'll also wave the national security/nativist flag wherever they can - as has been said, patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

Yes, the Repubs will come after Obama with anything they can to attack him personally, because they cannot attack him on the issues of ending the Iraq fiasco, on actually having a plan to provide more affordable health care(Repubs have NO plan there), and on the issue of rebuilding international trust and respect for an American president. But, lets not forget that the Dems have got McCain in tape singing a stupid ditty about bombing Iran, and also on tape for admitting that he knows very little about the economy. They can also hit where it really hurts a Repub, as a "flip flopper" , in that he first voted against the Bush tax cuts for the rich, and now backs them.
And yes, it is a little nauseating to see Democrats swooning after Obaman, but just watch a McCain rally or fundraiser and when them swoon when he talks about the importance of preserving their precious tax cuts for those who make over $700,000 a year.
It also gets them swooning when he talks about denying gays the same marriage rights as straights, and swoon some more when they cling to their Jesus statues and talk about the sanctity of life and the importance of appointing conservative judges who will overthrow a woman's right to decide what to do with her own body.
Then, watch them adore McCain when he talks eloquently about "States rights", but then sides with the Decider on sending administration lawyers before the Supreme Court to argue against the right of Oregon to pass a law allowing terminally ill citizens to end their painful lives with the help of a doctor. Can you say constant hypocrasy?

It's ironic that Woody's thread title borrowed from a famous protest song from 1967, For What It's Worth, by the Buffalo Springfield. A sample from its lyrics: "Stop, children, what's that sound? Everybody look what's going down."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_What_It's_Worth_(Stephen_Stills_song);
On another note, Obama may have the Irish-American vote sewn up, even without Kennedy help - they'll think his real name is O'Bama. A few AlaBamans perhaps too.

Oh yes, the Reps will, just as the Dems, use everything they can to win. Right now, though, it's Vampira that will be using everything she can to take Obama down before the convention. This is where the blood feast will be truly vicious. Bill has been saying that Hillary or McCain would be make Presidents than Obama. This is treason to the Dems. It's almost as though the Hillary folks are running a third party. The Clintons are proving that only they count, and party loyalty be damned. It's now obvious that the Clintons are willing to tear the Dem party apart; there will be no quarter; and anything goes even if there is only a tiny chance of her getting the nomination. This is pure solipsism.
To those Clinton loyalists: haven't you noticed that Bill and Hillary are completely power mad, neurotically self-centered and arrogant to the ninth degree? These two would burn down the house to kill the termites. They are damn dangerous individually; and together, they form a binary system that nears a psychosis.

Somehow this thread prompts me to publish Stannard’s 6th Law.
“One accuses others only of one’s own transgressions.”
By definition I am “normal” so, just for example, if I feel the need to lie then so too must everyone else. Someone calls me a liar I know for a fact they are liars. Have seen this work out time after time after time.
Lying isn't the issue here but it works to explain the law.

I loved that Charlie the Unicorn vid.
What I am waiting for is the head to head debates between McCain and Obama. It will be a good show to see a youngish thinker and speaker against a flip-flopping old man.
edit: I get the feeling that one side will be focused on the future, while the other (read, old man) will be talking about the past.

LEB-I'm confused as to why you have to work 2 jobs since Bush has been in office for two terms now. Surely his economic stimulus ideas and conservative fiscal ideologies have had plenty of time to take effect, yet, we are plunging into economic downturn/recession. Second, how are we paying for Iraq? Isn't it OUR tax dollars? and what have we gotten in return for it? If you're an example of an educated voter, then we are in serious trouble. I am now going to go bang my head against the wall.
..but, wait there's more. Have you ever used a public library? Did you go to public schools? If your house catches on fire or a "bad" guy harrasses you, do you call the fire dept. or police?
