So, as you can all probably tell, I am inside with my computer, hanging out on ST for the first time in awhile. So, I thought I would share with you a link that I keep in my favorites, which I titled as above. This is a trip report I came across years back and just loved it. I felt that the report as a whole captured the feelings and reasons why I love being on the wall. I like to read it from time to time.
Enjoy!

Thanks to Eric, Brutus and Amanda. How inspiring. I love the part about the mother bird so much.

I thought people might like to read the account of the first ascent of Magic Mushroom, in 1972. It's perhaps not easily accessible. Steve and Hugh attempted it in 1971, and got stormed off from Mammoth Terraces. They went back in 1972. The first two pages are from the 1972 Canadian Alpine Journal, and the last three from the 1973 Canadian Alpine Journal.
(Hopefully this is ok - if not, I can remove it. The copyright and patent trolls are busy on another thread.)

Holly,
I don't know if you ever looked at much rec.climbing, but Brutus, Amanda, and Coomer each have a lot of really nice TR's of Yosemite walls from over the years that are worth digging up if you haven't read them.

Cool, though, what fascinates me more is the somewhat recent free ascent-anyone have a link to TC's TR?..
if you have seen the snippets of footages from Dos. 5 you know what I speak of...holy holdless horrors

I was across the way when he did his free ascent IAD (or an attempt?) I had no idea who it was or what he was doing, but from the distance where you can barely make out limbs, it was clear that someone was freeclimbing at a level I never see. Like...a few hundred feet down over the course of my belay, and his feet ended up above where his hands were with every move he made. No pauses or bursts. It was beautiful to watch, even from way out West.
