Our party was lodged at Best Western on I Street six blocks up from the arch, around the corner from the McHenry mansion at 16th St.
Sunday evening a few dozen early arrivals partied in the Camp 4 Wine Cafe. Among them was this ancient teenager, brought to the shindig by Bonnie Kamps with the help of Andy Lichtman. For me, meeting Freewheelin' Frank and Lynn Hill were the highlights of that revelry. Much wine was consumed both here and in our motel room. Tom Cochrane, Ron, and myself enjoyed our evening with Dave Yerian and Lynnie.
A very special thank you to Tamara Robbins for her hostessing efforts for nearly 500 friends of Royal.

Just Yesterday
Standing around
Waiting for
The Memorial
we experienced hunger--
not for the first time, either.
So we crossed the street
and found a place
where they served
Pawn Salad.
I'm not much on Thai food
but it sure fit the mood.
I waited and waited
for my meal
while everyone at the table
did the same,
all of us politely ignoring
stomach rumblings
while sipping water
and talking about physics
and lamenting the late Bird.
I could say it was worth it;
but in the end
it was just another meal, really,
only this one was with friends,
which served as a dessert, sort of.
