I have asked Chris to lock up the 1977 Yosemite Plane Crash thread. I have what I need from those that participated in the event. When I first started this thread in 2005, the pilot's wife and I knew nothing about what went on in Yosemite other than the plane crashed, her husband died, and the Feds wanted a piece of her. We knew nothing about anyone trekking to the lake to take the dope or take photos of the event.
Because of this website I've managed to interview over thirty of the climbers that made their way up to the lake. I've found and interviewed over fifty Park employees from Rangers to hotel maids to delivery drivers that participated in this event. For those that have asked that I not use their names, be rest assured I will not. I thank you for your trust as an outsider to your climbing community.
I know I've thanked those personally that have contacted me, but I thought I'd use this forum to once again to thank everyone that agreed to speak to me. It has definitely been an eye opener.
When the book is published I will make sure that SuperTopo is notified, not for commercial purposes but to let those that helped me know that their stories are now in print.

As someone who has interviewed members of the same Nepalese village for almost 40 years now and published the results from time to time, I can appreciate the tremendous amount of work that you have done. Normally when someone works that hard, they publish something that is interesting and worthwhile. I trust that you will as well. Best wishes in that endeavor.

I have to wonder.... OP mentions that only in 2005(when he started the thread!) that the Feds "wanted a piece" of the pilot's wife.
Why would detectives respect any sort of boundary ("He's writing a book; let's allow professional courtesy...") and not use the information from that post to further their investigation???
Lets' HOPE he meant they "wanted a piece of her" BITD, and not in 2005.
As for locking that thread - I don't know of any thread on Supertopo that has ever been locked, and don't see why someone who isn't even prat of the community(except to come on and use it to gather info) would warrant such an action.
The thread started to get ugly, and perhaps the Op became a little worried that, with his info on the net, he might have reason to be concerned... But I don't thinlk that is going to get no thread nuked.

The reasons the Feds will NEVER get involved in the old plane crash thing is that DEA and most federal agencies are ruled by certain priorities. The only reason an old case is ever opened up again is that either a Feb got hurt or killed or there's some money to be made or an outstanding big time criminal to collar. Otherwise, just digging into this to find some weed sagas is absurd - there's no motivation and no money to investigate.
No one cares. At all.

Don’t blame you. The ones screaming the most usually have nothing to contribute. They say they know everything and do not and want to yell/harass.
Meet a nice couple a few months back in Tahoe; it was just by chance 1,000,000 to 1 that meeting someone in the woods ,sitting on some rocks looking over the lake that knew about it the way it happened or parts of it. Told him about your book and go on ST, read some of the threads at least or look at it, also use anonymous e-mails so no tracing but He said not a chance, figuring he would be found out and was happy with his results and leave things alone. He was happy with his life then, now and no reason to change it. Can't argue with that.
We talked about Aspen: He was at a party back then when it hit the news and he casually mentioned; Hey! What do you think you are smoking? After saying “airplane”, the whole place went nuts.
So yes there are still a couple of loose ends. There is nothing worse in this world than having the wrong information.
Plus the Feds and DEA f$ched up from the beginning and having it known or published even then or now was/is an embarrassed for them to admit it.

Is it possible that the plane wasn't full of weed, but actually had a container load of pods who are now out roaming around as grown ups looking for some snatch?

Yawn. I won't buy the book. The story has been told.
So will someone besides Licky please get a screenplay going based on the events at Merced Pass Lake so that the Dramatic Docs Duo can have a shot at it?

Although I think Jeff Long's fictional account "Angels of Light" would be a good screenplay.
