It's getting closer to the big event. Time to start revving up the planning. Will need help to make the Food Event happen.

*Anyone want to work the party room kitchen???

*Anyone want to volunteer a pot of their specialty....???

Menu will consist of crock pot stews, soups, chili's ..... anything you can make in a pot and keep warm.

Will also need help with some gigantic salads, and fresh breads to serve.

We always have a total BLAST doing this. Others stand around and jaw, we make it Happen.

Cheers and Ciao, Lynne

PS, last year Mari brought tons of fresh, huge strawberries for desert. That or something similar would also be awesome.

Congratulations JMC for winning the 15 Climbs in Sedona that don't suck guidebook as donated by SteelMonkey. Great fundraising dollars have been gained by your generous $100 bid!!

Also on a personal note thank you for following up not only on the Taco but with me personally regarding the status and next step for payment. Very nice.

Thanks! Shoot the $$ to Dave and the guide is headed your way.

GORDON FAMILY FUNDRAISER –Joshua Tree, CA

BIG PARTY AT THE GORDON RANCH APRIL 21, 2012

Once again, we are trying to raise some money to fix the roof at THE RANCH, have a memorable party, replace their dead mini-van and more.

EVERYONE IS INVITED! Including Stonemasters, Uplanders, wanna-bes, Sheep Buggerers, those mysterious folk from San Diego, RADs, BGR, Banditos, Valley boys, Euros, Asians, Latinos, American Alpine Clubbers, Mazamas, Vulgarians, Buff Alpine clubbers, Sierra Clubbers, boulderers and even Canadians and Newfoundlanders, not to mention people from Florida. This means you!

In the continuing philanthropic tradition we will be having a giant party at The Gordon residence at 9561 Starr Ln., Joshua Tree, CA on April 21, 2012. This year the main goal will be to do major repairs on the roof of the house at The Gordon Ranch. The brutal Joshua Tree weather and the many visitors have taken a toll on the house. They have one messed up roof with multiple leaks. The roofing crew of motivated locals is already set. We just need money for roofing materials, the party and a new/used mini-van as their old one died just before Christmas.

Most of us know Todd Gordon, AKA "The Mayor of Josh," as one of the most giving humans in the So. Cal. climbing community for the last 30 or so years. Chances are you have stayed at one of Todd's houses more than once while visiting Joshua Tree for it's world famous climbing....or you've climbed one of Todd's many, many classic and not so classic routes.... or maybe he even taught you to climb. I myself have been his guest more times than I can remember. We've showered, pooped, watched TV, camped, used the kitchen etc. there while visiting Todd, his family and our beloved Monument (JTNP).

This party is going to have a rocking band called "Warsaw."

We are also honored to have world traveler Tony Yeary giving a slideshow with digital images from the Cordillera Blanca of Peru to our own awesome Range of Light, the Sierra Nevada.

We are also going to have a silent auction and raffle for some great climbing gear, guide books, collectables, memorabilia and more. Susan Peplow will be in charge of the silent auction and raffle. We will need a couple of volunteers to help with the raffle and auction. To donate or help you may contact her at susanpeplow@hotmail.com and 602-725-3249.

Lynne Leichtfuss has graciously offered to coordinate the food effort, and yes it is a big effort. Last year she and her posse did an incredible job.
She will need several volunteers to help her and will be accepting donations to help pay for the food. You can contact her at 760-749-8774 to help in any way.

SPONSORS INCLUDE- The American Alpine Club and Supertopo.

READ THIS PART! We are looking for cash and material donations. Cash in any amount is good. Material donations should be things that can be sold for cash. I will have a continuing sale/auction as this thread develops.

Please feel free to call or e-mail me regarding any questions you may have about this must attend event.

Cash donations can be Paypaled to me using my e-mail address which is:

What's up with all the hammers/

Answer:

In short, I'm trying to auction them to raise some cash to support Dave's efforts.

The Chouinard is a classic alpine hammer that had a short marketing life due to the advent of metallic shafts. I don't know how many are still around in the condition of this one. Maybe someone else who has more knowledge can weigh in on this.

The Forrest wall hammer is one that I can't really speak to. Seems like there were wall hammers (i.e., Chouinard) that were preferred at the time this was on the market. EC Joe seems to think it was a good design (hope I'm not putting words in your mouth EC).

That said, there appears to be no interest in them. I feel they have historic value, having used both BITD. I sold/traded my original tools years ago and have bought these recently on the interweb for nostalgic reasons.

Thought some of the old guard that remember these tools and have reached financial security would be interested and willing to pony up the bucks to support Dave's efforts.

To be honest, I'm glad no one wants them. It would be hard to part with them.

They sure are purdy!

I'm still hoping to bid on the alpine hammer, but still also thinking about whether the money would be better (or worse) used traveling to Gordonpalooza.

We have a WINNER for the Chouinard alpine hammer!

Anders, it is yours, gratis. The caveat is you have to appear at the ToddPalooza and help Lynne with the food fest.

I was just looking for someone that would appreciate the hammer and work to support Dave's efforts. You stepped up to the plate.

Cheers!

Well, the idea was that I could bid on a hammer, and so contribute some money to a good cause, or simply waste the money on myself and a trip, and have fun. See friends, but end up without a hammer, and with less of a donation. (I directly sent a donation earlier.) And now there's a third option. I guess I better look into trip plans, and see if casa jstan will be open. Last time we did some plumbing. Philosophical conundrums...

This is post #555 - does that make me 5/6 as evil as say FatTrad?

More goods received thanks to our very own PhilG!

Was expecting just the vintage and collectors addition of "A climber's guide to Joshua Tree national Monument" by John Wolfe & Bob Dominick but also received.....

"Southern California Sport Climbing Williamson Rock" by Troy Mayr & Anthony Sweeney

"Classic Rock Climbs Red Rocks", Falcon Guide

And staple of any SoCal Climber the 1992 "Joshua Tree Rock Climbing Guide" by Randy Vogel.

This is a nice selection of guides. Good references for duplicates or the Red Guide for collectors which is in EXCELLENT, LIKE NEW condition!

Thanks Again Phil!

Great article written by Pat Ament called: Kor Spelled Backwards is RO(C)K

This is probably worth between 10-20K, but i would be willing to let it go for far less, with all proceeds going to Todd.
