Why? John was an interesting character, a really good climber, and a friend to many to be sure. But he was also a tragic figure who struggled with a number of issues, as do many of us. He wasn't a leading pioneer of his generation in terms of first ascents, professionalism or longevity.
There are many fine climbers who not only pushed their own personal envelope, but got an education, tackled a career, raised a family and continued to grow as climbers and human beings. I think they deserve recognition too.
I liked John, just curious why you think he should be singled out for a wiki page. If you feel that strongly about it, have at it.

Thrust is on to something. Pretty much for the reasons survival states.
Gotta add that I think his ascent of Spiderline in the style he did it is pretty historically noteworthy.

I was just on my Dad's page and the only other stonemasters mentioned were John Long, Ron Kauk, and Dave Yerien.

Someone at the table said "Why isn't Yabo mentioned?" so I posted this thing.

A good idea. I'd do it but too lazy.
No need to put in every detail of his life just what he means to climbing.
Yabo was significant in his bold style of bouldering, climbing and soloing. Also as a part of a group that created a 2nd (or was it the 3rd) golden age of American climbing. He's like the James Dean of the Stonemasters.
I only met him once and he wasn't that friendly but who cares.
I think Largo should put it up. (or assign it to someone)

wikipedia is encyclopedic in nature. You usually see lists of accomplishments.
It seems what is most interesting about yabo is all the crazy stories about him. Better material for supertopo and the like, than for a dry encyclopedia entry.

I think a wiki page would be appropriate, the whole idea of the wiki is a much less formal treatment of these facts and stories...
the proposed Yabo page wouldn't have to be very elaborate, but it would be there to serve the generation of climbers who don't or can't sit down and listen to the stories, not that there need to be stories on the wiki... but certainly the role of Yabo in the history of climbing, at least in that important era, was an important one.

Yabo was not simply a talented and devoted climber. His persona and life (the good and the bad) are inextricably tied to his climbing accomplishments and notoriety.
For better or worse, most notable climbers are known almost entirely for their climbing accomplishments. People seem to like their heroes to retain that two-dimensional aspect. Their deep personal challenges are usually not grist for discussion.
This is not the case with Yabo. When we try to confront Yabo's legacy, we are often confronted with issues that make us uncomfortable.
Couple this with the tendency of people to shy away from complexity and a preference for simple (even if incorrect) constructs and you can see why the idea of a Wiki page for Yabo gives rise to discomfort.
Given the ubiquitous nature of the Internet and Wiki and the place Yabo holds in our tribe's history, I can't see a good reason for someone not undertaking to create a listing for Yabo.
