WHAT OBAMACARE IS ALL ABOUT.
FROM POWERLINE:
In this post, I described Obamacare as a uniquely vicious form of corruption. Harsh words? Definitely, but I think justified:
[T]he vicious strategy at the heart of Obamacare [is to] pass terrible legislation, and then collect a toll by exempting your friends--those who pay you lots of money--from that legislation, while your enemies have to live with it.
Dr. Milton Wolf expands on this idea in the Washington Times:
If you would like to know what the White House really thinks of Obamacare, there's an easy way. Look past its press releases. Ignore its promises. Forget its talking points. Instead, simply witness for yourself the outrageous way the White House protects its best friends from Obamacare.
Last year, we learned that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had granted 111 waivers to protect a lucky few from the onerous regulations of the new national health care overhaul. That number quickly and quietly climbed to 222, and last week we learned that the number of Obamacare privileged escapes has skyrocketed to 733.
[N]one of the friends of Barack feature as prominently as the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). How can you get your own free pass from Obamacare? Maybe you can just donate $27 million to President Obama's campaign efforts. That's what Andy Stern did as president of SEIU in 2008. ...
Backroom deals and cover-ups may be business as usual for Washington, but understanding why the Obama administration protects its friends from Obamacare offers special insight into what the purveyors of the mandate themselves think about their own law. This is key: The waivers aren't meant to protect victims from unintended consequences of Obamacare; they are meant to exempt them from the very intentional increased costs of health insurance that the law causes. ...
In short, the administration has decided that you will face increased health insurance premiums, but special friends in the unions will not. Look closely, and you'll see not only the White House's duplicity but also what the Obama administration really thinks of its crown jewel, Obamacare.

Ken M, LEB,
MY 85 year old father took a fall at home this week. Complained of painful ribs, no bruising, no spitting up of blood. I took him to his GP, he palpated, took vitals, listened to cario/pulmon and said perhaps broken rids, nothing to do about except Tylenol. I asked about an xray, he said, "if you want one, but even if broken, nothing to do about it". I know that ribs are not treated, but I was impressed with his cost saving mentality, no xray.
First, sorry to hear about this injury to your dad. I am glad that it turned out to be relatively minor in outcome.
I agree with his Dr's approach. Trying to get a high quality xray with this injury, in which taking a very deep breath and holding it, can be very painful for the patient. It is true, that the treatment for a broken rib is simple pain control....exactly the same as for a contusion to the chest well, so an xray adds nothing.
Best wishes for your dad to recover quickly.

LEB says:
Not so at all, Ken. I do not know for certain one way or another whether the policies enacted by the US in the Middle East are good, bad or otherwise. I certainly do not hold myself as an expert and I most certainly do not hold you as an expert. That you say xyz policy is rapacious or unwise is not sufficient for me. Unless you can prove expertise in the area, your opinion is worth no more than any other non-expert. It is just that - your opinion.
Well, this is quite a paragraph.
The first thing that jumps out at me is the "expert" assertion. Taking your position, I'd assume that you have no expertise in illicit drug distribution, military procurement, or econometrics. Thus, you've sort of shot any reason why anyone should listen to you on pretty much any subject.
That is your assertion.
The second thing is that it is amazing to me that a person who works as a professional could not be aware of the policies of our country that have existed for the purpose of acquisition of oil. This is not so much a matter of opinion, as it is a matter of history. The apparent fact that you have not studied sufficient American History to understand this, is bizarre.

Also, there is another point worth making. If we take it as a given that we are all better off with less dependence on foreign oil sources, we need to look beyond just automobiles as the measure of one's energy usage. Vehicles alone do not definitively define who is and who is not an "energy hog."
No, that is a cop-out. This is the equivalent to "cap and trade" which the GOP hates so much.
It ALL counts. You don't get a pass on your Hummer, because you turn your lights off in the room where nobody is.
But I go beyond that. Dependance on foreign energy is a strategic defense issue.

I just looked it up. Seems Obama's toady speech denigrating Americans DID, in fact, take place in Cairo. Interesting.
Care to post a link to the speech, since you looked it up, so that we can all make our own decision as to whether it was putting down Americans?
I mean, I assume you are not holding yourself out as an expert in rhetoric or linguistics? So that is just your opinion right?
Or......is it someone else's opinion, and you have not actually read the speech, yourself?

I suspect the ole boy's begun to drink again. He gets particularly vile and foul mouthed under those circumstances. There is no reasoning or rationale discussion with someone under those circumstances. AAA or something like it is the only answer and we do not serve him well by egging him on. That is one of the reasons I totally ignore him and all comments he directs at me. Rather, we want to encourage rehab. It is the only way to go under these circumstances. I would not even be engaging him in discussion. You waste your own valuable time and you delay his motivation to seek treatment and recovery.
Abuse
Ad hominem abuse (also called personal abuse or personal attacks) usually involves insulting or belittling one's opponent in order to invalidate his or her argument, but can also involve pointing out factual but ostensible character flaws or actions which are irrelevant to the opponent's argument.
This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and even true negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions.

Undoubtedly another example of Democratic gov't bowing down to assertions of American badness.
Another damn holiday.
"Fred Korematsu, a young man who refused to be hauled away during World War II because of his heritage, took his case to the U.S. Supreme Court. Now, six years after his death, a statewide holiday honors his courage."

Yeah, do you mind not posting that photo during breakfast, lunch, brunch, snacktime, suppertime, and late night snack time, allowing for posters and lurkers being all around the world? Anytime from 1:58 - 3:17 AM Yosemite time should be OK, though.

No severability clause. All of Obamacare is ruled
unconstitutional by Judge Vinson in Florida.
U.S. District Court in Pensacola, Florida, has ruled Obamacare
is entirely null and void!
