make sure she gets a second opinion on the pathology if she's been given a new diagnosis of cancer.

Not a specific recommendation for a Dr, but I'd suggest going to a National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. In Washington, that's Fred Hutchinson.

Yeah, the Hutch is definitely the place to go in the NW.

at least for the pathology, she can request to have the slides sent to another institution for review, she doesn't have to travel at all. any academic center would be happy to review them

If she has insurance, have her check with her plan about something along the lines of a "Cancer Resource Plan". United Health, who I was with had a program that helped pay for transport to various recognized national cancer centers.

Suggest that you PM Guido ASAP to ask him to get contact info for Rob Wood in B.C. whose wife is a long-term survivor. Guido gets on plane to NZ on Sunday, so the sooner the better...

Sending healing wishes to your friend; my ex is also a 20-year survivor.

A friend here in Seattle is not only a doc, but underwent surgery for breast cancer herself. I'll try to track her down and get an opinion from her.
