Alex Anderson, the creator of the brilliant cartoon characters Rocky and Bullwinkle, and of many fine puns, has died. He was 90.

Hopefully Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale had nothing to do with it.

Or Snidely Whiplash.

Some examples of their zany adventures are at

Their proper names were, of course, Bull Winkle and Rocket J. Squirrel.

Anderson created the characters originally, but was not involved in the animated TV show - that was Jay Ward.
Not to mention the cool voices like June Foray.

Ha, we put up a route at Crow Hill called 'The Wizard' because one of us (Marco Fedrizzi I think) started yelling 'Help me Mr. Wizard! Help me!" while blowing the crux.

"He later said he felt he had not received credit for his creations and won a lawsuit against Jay Ward Productions in 1993 that recognized him as the creator of the first versions of Rocky, Bullwinkle and Dudley Do-Right."

I wonder where the base jumpers got the idea for their squirrel suits?

And what about Dean's nickname?

Hokey smokes!

Jay Ward, the head of the circus, was a Berkeley grad. When I was a student there, the band had an intro to "Fight for California" (aka "The Sturdy Golden Bear") that began with the theme from Dudley Do-Right. The UCLA band had the theme from Rocky & Bullwinkle in their repertoire. Good times for Rocky & Bullwinkle fans -- like me.

Rest in peace and thanks for the laughs...

Love those Fractured Fairy Tales too...Very obscure FA on Rappel Rock in Tucson that I did with Bobbi Bensman back when she was still a pilgrim bears that name.
