mad bump for dawn, ricky d, and papjoto for helping nature out so much all week with rolling and dishes and such - way cool of you all...and doug - yummmmm...
i think the park should give out copies of that 'everybody poops' book to tourists...maybe help explain that the poo paper goes in the bathroom and not behind every tree ;-)
the park was much cleaner this year though - Very Nice to see that. Thanks Ken !

Not sure that Ana or Hardman should be able to post here..... LOL
They weren't there, even though prior to the lift they were all about it!!!! LOL
What happened?
Hearts fell when we found out the news that Ana and t*r/SS were not showing.... Or was that just mine?
As for HK.. I've heard enough about this guy to make me think that I was lucky that he didn't show (tongue in cheek).. Missed ya
But still, I was hoping to meet many new folks on this trip, have to settle for what I got, which was plenty of fun, much pain and gallons of sweat, and a few new faces to go with the online name!
Thanks Nita for being so helpful in all areas..
Thanks Lynne for showing up even when your mind told you not to! See, you can have fun too! Next time, we won't give you another tattoo! LOL
Khanon - Niuce to have met you.
Jaybro - Glad to have met you again - (Side note:About Genorator Crack on Sunday... Turns out I don't know where it is! Sorry I missed out.
Blinny - Thank you for you songs and stories. Fun times
Bluering, A.Crowley, Chris Mac, C Skinner, and all others I've met/spoken too and held court with during this Facelift... Thank you!
This was more than an opportunity to help in something bigger than myself. This was medicine for a single conscious soul.
And even if your name was not mentioned here, you've probably impacted my life in someway that I may never be able to either express or repay.

O.k., I didn't take as many pics this year but here some I did take. I think buddy Ezra probably has more I'll have to get from him.
Someone bought the kids some 'light sticks' that glowed in the dark and the adults got a hold of them. Here's Peter.
Around the fire (I'll need help with names again). That's Jake (frisbee) with the lightsticks in his hair, Jillian in the middle and Angela far right.
Pennsylenvy bottom left, Andy with the guitar, Fatty far left, Lynne in the blue shirt.
I know this guy's name, the one and only Crowley (Matt).
Me and Happiegirl
My friend Ishun in the blue jacket.
Strider in the green shirt, Ed on the far left, JoeyF in the middle
Ed and Dave (Brass Nuts) on the far-right talking.
Late night bouldering with Peter
Edited to correct names/identify people.

It was great meeting & chatting with you & Andy,
Dawn & Ricky D, Happie--I'm so happy you're puppy's doing
better--keep us informed, Strider, Buggs, Matthew (Crowley--awesome chatting with you), Ed, JStan (good to see you after all these years), and lastly, Fatty you chicken head--afraid
me & MisterE were going to tar & feather you with Obama stickers, so you stayed away until I left!
(of course it's always good to see Dave & Crimpie, and it was
too short of time to talk to you John Moosie)!
I was lucky enough to see the Patriarch Grove and Schulman Grove
of Bristlecones outside of Bishop on my way back (a dream of mine for years). I'll try and post pix later.
Oh yeah, we waved to El Cap-pics on our way out,
Ken Yager, what an organizer! Great job!!!!!
EDIT
Ooops!
I forgot to thank Nature, Ricky D, Papajoto, and Dawn and all of
the wonderful people who worked so hard on the sushi part Thursday when I was there. . . MMMMMMMM Goood!

Hell of a trip and it was great to meet all of you. It is strange to think that I have known some of you one way or another for 4+ years and finally have had the chance to meet a lot of you.
Really too many people to shout out to, everyone was so friendly and ready to help out and volunteer for the park, it helps renew my faith in our little community. No theft, fights, jail time or major injuries for any of us, just a bunch of people doing good things and having a good time doing it. Thanks to Ken for all his work.
So all you guys who don't post up much (like me) get in here and say hi so all of us know your user name. That way we can get email addresses and set up grand climbing epics together!

Andy started this thread with some of his pics so here's my shout out.
I stole this shot from Riley's "I love Werner" thread because Tim's harmonica playing was so entertaining. I was spotting him so he wouldn't fall into the fire.
Chiloe, thanks for the spicy salsa; delicious and thoughtful.
Thanks to Tim and Crimpy for the harpoons.
Perfect weather, good company. It was wonderful meeting new people and seeing new and old friends. Of course a big thank you to KEN,Katiebird, Nature, Ricky D and Dawn for all their hard work at the Facelift and at Yellow Pines.
Shout out to Lynne, Riley, Jingy, Steve W, Moosie, Strider, Jillian, eKat,Dan, Dave, Jake, Peter, PapaJoto,Casey,Buggs,Nefarius, Joe, the Fishy family, Anita, Greg, Happi and all the folks I met last year and reconnected with.
Still on a facelift high!
ps. I think that's the DR's nose on the left side of the pic.;-)

Facelift was great. I finely got to put faces to names. I met lots of good folks and wish I could have been there for the weekend because I missed getting to meet a few people. Maybe next year.
Fatty trolled me good on friday night. He told me Palin was flying into the park on sunday in a helicopter to show her support for the environment. I bought it hook, line and sinker and pissed and moaned about how flying into yosemite valley on a helicopter for a photo op was just so wrong.
Me hooked. haha..
Thanks Fatty.. I owe you one. :-)

FaceLift TR
Ed Hartouni
September 23-28, 2008
I got off work later than I thought, then the car loading took longer than I thought, but I beat the traffic through Tracy on I-580 East and was at Yellow Pines before too long...
Ricky D, Guy Yager, PapaJoto, Jilli, and khanom at the Sushi-by-Nature Tent
Things were already cooking, crowds gathered and I got to meet a whole bunch of people, eKat, Lynne, Crimpie's Dave...
Nature, the Yagers, PapaJoto, Ricky D making things happen
The pickup band was rocking around the camp fire with many notable SuperTopians holding court
The next morning I volunteered to work on a "special project," pulling out old telephone lines from the Ahwanhee to Mirror Lake, we got about 400 lbs, here is some of the crew, that's Fattrad with the orange FaceLift vest on...
Later that same day, back at the Visitor's Center, Jilli and ?
Jake is consulting with Katie on what was done... and Echo in the background talks to Ken's dad
The Master Mind dealing
Mighty Hiker and Lynne milling around waiting for the first night raffle
The first couple of nights the crowds weren't so large...
...but they were psyched to get picked!
The next morning the special project picked up again, but this time from Happy Isles to the top of Nevada falls, more telephone wire. I was mostly walking, I love to be in the Valley moving around on foot, it just isn't all that big, really. And slowing down let's you notice some beautiful things...
Washington Column from Sentinel Meadows
The special-ops crew was a combination of climbers and rangers... with the short-bus transport, here we are dismounting... Max is on the left, Bruce, Jake, Bob, SteveW, ? and Jstan are visible
We separated into three groups, split up the mile and a half of cable-way and started to take stuff down! I was in the lower crew with Jstan, SteveW, and Bob, we ended up getting all our leg out and to the road, and then went up to the next crew and carried stuff down... here is SteveW with a load
SteveW and Bob incoming!
And the shot which shows what it's all about, climbers and rangers working together to help fulfill the Sheridan Anderson commandment: "Thou Shall Not Trash The Place"
Sarah, Jstan, SteveW, Brent, Jake, JesseM, Leo, ?, ?, khanom, Chris, Bruce
(khanom edit... thanks!)
What a day, 975 lbs of cable pulled and piled... I walked back to camp pretty well worked... but the Valley still inspired
Waiting back at camp, more Sushi...
Ricky D
BrassNuts
Sally
and The Man
Friday I was climbing with Crimpie, that is another trip report... and then there was that thing at the slide show/talk host skit... but someone else will have to tell that story!
...but Saturday morning we tripped back over to the Visitor's Center for more cleaning...
up on 120 with Gary, Peggy and Jaybro picking up stuff. It seemed that there was a lot less trash on 120 than last year, where I picked up in the same area. Seems that Ken's idea might just be working! This was a full day which ended in good sleep, though not without worrying about Nature, who had got a crack-of-noon start on the East Buttress of El Cap and pulled off the ascent and descent getting back to Yellow Pines at about 9pm! great time!
Sunday morning coffee
with Jaybro and Gary
and the scene at the camp
from my tent that was pitched far from all the others on Tuesday, but found itself in the middle of everything on Sunday.
Another climbing TR: Mighty Hiker meets "Penny's Crack" will come later...
A great time!
Let me add my thanks to Ken for pulling off yet another great FaceLift!

Nita: I'm getting to the photos now...I'm updating the blog first and won't get up until photos start appearing on the taco. In fact, I may start multi-tasking now that I have some mate tea on board.

Ken you are a rare breed. Thank you for all the time you put in for this and all the other great YCA events. You are a
climbers climber. Its great to see someone who loves the area they live in and gives and gives and gives back.
Lets not forget all the great sponsors for this event and Chris Mac and Supertopo.
Dan from Redwood Creek Wine was great as was Dave from 5-10.
There was so much free beer and wine and swag , it was like a birthday party everyday.
Northface, Patagonia, Teva , 5-10, Cliff bar, and so many more.
It was great meeting everyone and staying in Yellow Pines.
I did have a Jingy sighting and it was odd indeed.
Nature was awesome. thanks for the rare treat. Sushi in the forest ?

Thank you Yosemite , your towering stone walls make everyone feel welcome.

Sushi decorations
Some merry-makers: Mighty Hiker, Crimpie, Crowley and Chicken Skinner
View from the top of Half Dome that BrassNuts took after soloing Snake Dike.
Soloing Snake Dike was "extra fun" because of the blasting winds. This climber wasn't bothered a bit by the winds.
Thanks again to Fatty for the birthday cake! And thanks to Lynn L for my stylish boa. :) Notice Dave Nettles waiting to pounce on a piece of that deliciousness!
Sushi mayhem

Ranger Jack on our special project picking up phone wire. Had a great time with him, Ranger Jessie and the others that helped.
Happiegrrrl heading up the first pitch of Beggar's Buttress
Crimpergirl heading up the first pitch of Beggar's Buttress. Fun climb!
Crimpie heading up pitch two of Beggar's. Fun fun fun!
Same as above:
JStan and Fatty before the big party
Karl Baba, Brass Nuts and Happiegrrrl before the party
Lovely Dawn, Ricky D and Fatty before the party. A photography extravaganza!
A super fun moment at the final shebang was when a t-shirt was thrown to John Stannard to see if he could snag it out of the air. How could they doubt? With perfect grace, he snatched it and the crowd went wild. This was truly a highlight.
T-shirts, poop bags, and chalk being thrown into the audience. Only 57 people were injured.
Amazing rainbows we saw while driving home. This was in California still I believe.

The food the night of the party was wonderful. Sadly, it didn't last. This hungry crew was nearly first in line though. I think I see Dan, Crimpie, Brass Nuts, Frisbee, Mighty Hiker, Happie and Fatty.
Crimpie begging for a t-shirt. All I wanted was t-shirt and I ended up with the 275$ Patagonia jacket. Sweet!
Chicken Skinner introducing the Band
Mighty Hiker made some delicious Troll Marmalade. I thought we'd save it until we got home but that didn't happen. We chowed on it in Yeller Pines - DELICIOUS!
Saw this pretty butterfly on my car in the Yosemite Village parking lot. I thought "how pretty". Just then it fell off and died on the pavement. Gack.
On our way into the Valley we stopped to check out the Tufas at Mono Lake. Very cool stuff!
Before getting to Yeller Pines, we hopped out of the car and ran up the Regular Route on Fairview Dome. Fun! On top were an assortment of really pretty cairns. Very peaceful.
Taking the easy way down - being lowered on a windy day from Sons of Yesterday.
Too many people on Astroman. Brassnuts will have to get on it again another day. See the little Euros on the route?

Facelift rocked!
It was great to meet up with some of the folks from BITD. Nice to see Andy, Nita and Tim, and Karl B. from the Curry days. Dave Nettle from from the really early days at Mountain High and Taquitz. Had a great time picking trash along 120 with FatTrad, Herb, and Mary. Pagan, Lynne, Crowley, Angela, Ousley, and everyone around the campfire. Great to finally meet Crimpergirl, Dave, Dr. Ed, Mister E, and JStan.
Not such a great time doing a bleary –eyed recycling run at 3:00 am on Saturday after the nice ranger lady started giving us grief. My car still smells like sushi and beer!
And of course...climbing. I soloed a bit of Jamcrack while picking up trash at the base of Sunnyside on Thursday. I’ve always loved that climb, and it felt so good to get my hands back into that crack. And then I wanted more. Friday was all clean up, so that just left Saturday morning as I had to head back to the Orange Asylum in the afternoon.
Saturday morning, after breakfasting with FatTrad, I wandered over to Manure Pile. The place was hopping with at least 15 parties on the rock. I watched several parties and a few soloists go up After Six. A couple more parties went up After Seven. I played around for a while trying to work out the opening moves to Six Thirty, eventually getting up about 10-12 feet. Not willing to fall any further, than that, I gave up and started taking my shoes off. Steve and Elaine were heading up After Seven and offered me a top rope on Six Thirty. I got a little further up and fell twice, so I lowered off and headed up After Seven with them (Thanks again for the ride, guys!).
Yosemite was wonderful as always. I stopped at the tunnel for a final look and started home. I made it almost to Wawona before I had to stop and dry my eyes (allergies….yeah, that’s it) and then head back to the house and family.

Yeah, I am behind on TR/Photos.
TIRED! I got to the airport at 1:30pm only to find out that Virgin had canceled the flight back in August and apparently Orbitz failed to notify me.... LUCKILY, they didn't pull the asshat card pon me. It seems that this has happened to many people in the last few weeks. BUT - the next flight was at 11pm.
So there I was, stuck in SFO for 8 hours.... The interesting thing was that I had sublet my apartment while away, and the people needed to have the place until Wed. morning at 11. Not wanting to lose out the sublet I had told them "I'll do something else" for that one last night. I had planned to simply bivy in the top of my building for the few hours. But the flight dela ended up getting me back to Chelse just in time to drop off my bags, take a leisurely breakfast and then get to my first dog walk of the day!
Funny how life works out for my convenience...even as strangely as this one seems! But, I ran around all day yesterday, picking up Teddy and stuff. He is doing okay, but does have periods in the day where it's obvious he is not feeling well.
I was going to make a TR today, but got back from work and took a nap.....No TR. Maybe I can take my computer upstate this weekend and work on editing photos down.
In the interim, here are some photos I have done already. Some are B/W versions of the color ones.

Hey Happie, Nita's husband, Andy here. Great photos for not only a first-timer but for anyone. That El Cap shot at the bottom shows its monolithic beauty......Seeing as you live in Chelsea, you can probably bring the dog into my bro's dealer's gallery (I've seen pooches inside), James Cohan @ 533 W 26th st, next to Annie Leibowitz's old studio, the Cedar building). Thanks for asking after Teddy!
He is doing well, I think. Easily tired though, and at times it shows that he is feeling unwell.
When I picked him up on Wednesday he was in good spirits but I could tell that he was running at slower rpm's than usual. Still, he insisted on walking down the stairs and then up the 5 flights to my own home....not a good idea. It was too much for him and he was obviously sore from the small effort.
So, I have been carrying him up/down the stairs just to help him out. I know he "needs" it because he sets himself up for me to pick him up and even stands up onto his back legs as I put my arms under his torso. If he didn't need it, he would evade me!
He's getting pain and antibiotics twice a day and is good about it, so long as I slip the pills into a treat.
We're heading to the Gunks in about an hour but I intend for us to do a rest day tomorrow. Sleep late, hang around camp and maybe a walk to the Uberfall if anything. Sunday he will have to walk to/from the Minty approach trail where we are doing trailwork, but if it seems tiring for him I hope I can convince someone to carry him for me....hahahah.
He's been sleeping in my bed all night and isn't raring to go in the morning. Usually, if he starts out the night in bed he will jump out after an hour or so. In the mornings, he usually wants me to play 'throw the toy so he can race after it' first event of the day, and so far he has only once asked me to do that, and it was in the evening after his pills had kicked in.
So I know he's still feeling sick. But it seems that he's in good spirits, and he is eating well, which I had to coax him to do for the first few meals.

Just home, and I'll post some pictures later. Another successful FaceLift, and a good time. NIce to see everyone - thanks for a lot of fun! Some random recollections:
Left Vancouver at noon the Friday before, had to wait 3+ hours at the border. They're rebuilding the customs posts on both sides.
Met jstan in Merced, schlepped ourselves to Camp 4.
Helped Ken from Sunday - Tuesday with miscellaneous chores. Plus gave him some stuff for the museum. It turns out that Ken has a LADYBUG at his house! I knew there were more ladybugs around, but not hiding in plain sight.
Sushifest Tuesday night was fantastic, though a smaller group than later in the week. Sorry I wasn't able to drop by and meet more peeps.
Handed out FaceLift leaflets throughout Camp 4 on Wednesday morning, then cleaned up all public areas around the camp except the parking lot in the afternoon. Recruited some more.
Changed slide trays at Don Lauria's presentation that night. He had four 140-slide trays, and two 80-slide trays. Not all full, but I counted over 700 slides. So it was hopping, especially in the sweltering projection booth. Luckily Ed was there for direction. Both Don's and Glen Denny's shows were fantastic. Met MisterE's lady friend.
Had domestic duties on Thursday morning, so cleaned up the Curry Housekeeping parking lot. (I usually had to hide from the sun for an hour or two at midday, not wanting to overdo things.)
More good presentations Thursday night.
Tried to avoid driving during the FaceLift, apart from trips to Tuolumne.
The rangers came by Camp 4 at least every second night, and once or twice were pretty assertive. Funny how some just don't get the quiet hours thing.
Friday was sent to the southside trail, ending up at El Cap bridge, then back through the recent burn, where there was already some garbage.
Saturday morning repaired litter sticks, plus checked the new ones out of the box. About 10% of the new ones needed immediate tightening, so the lock nut would hold the rubber cup on. Though the tines probably have a tendency to work the nuts and so the cups off. In the afternoon, carried many bags from weigh-in to the dumpsters, and hoisted them in. Bashed elbow funny bone hard, stuck in beer ice to soothe it. (Still sore.) Josh Ritter, then an early night.
Sunday played hookey, went to Tuolumne with Ed H. We did a climb called "GWB" - nothing to do with you know who. Predictably, some heel-toe manoeuvres were needed, but a fun climb. Party Sunday night. Dead quiet in Camp 4 that night and the next morning.
Monday morning played a faux pirate, swabbing the decks at the auditorium, and helping after-party cleanup. Monday afternoon ran into Jake, Gillian, Gretchen, Kristin, and Happi. Jake treated us to ice cream at the Ahwahnee, which was lovely.
Tuesday hiked the Panorama Trail, at Leo's suggestion. Very nice, found some more garbage, ran into EKat and her friend Joan from Philadelphia at Glacier Point and got a ride back to the Valley.
Wednesday vegetated, met EKat and Joan for a pleasant dinner. Also met a woman at the Lodge who was named Tenaya.
Thursday drove up to Tuolumne. I'd hoped to go to Cloud's Rest, but there was some road/tree work going on, so there wasn't time. So hiked the May Lake loop instead, at the usual brisk pace. A lovely cool windy day. Found a bit of garbage, but didn't have time to do the access road or the camp area.
(Ken: Panorama + May Lake add another 10+ miles to the nominal FaceLift total. There was already some new garbage on 120, west of the Sunrise parking area at the west end of Tenaya Lake. Better yet, there are some discarded culverts there, not far off the highway - I'll remember them for next year. I wonder if it would be worth snooping around every place on the highway there's a culvert, to see if there are bits of old ones strewn in the bush?)
Friday started home at 10:45 AM, here at 6:15 AM. Didn't plan to drive through, but went OK with un-Hikerish loud 'music', plus this evaded the border lineup. Loki happy to see me.
Photos to follow. Also, jstan generously provided some of the wherewithal for next year's batch of marmelade, from his tree. Now stored in the freezer, until the new year.

Compared to the CCC group we were angels. Their jamboree noise level far exceeded anything at our camp. It's funny that they didn't get busted for their OB camping at Sentinel Beach with half a dozen ice chests in the back of a truck...................just sayin' ................................fun was had by all.
edit: Anders, the Lodge employee you met named Tenaya, her mom, Patty Garza- was raised in the valley. I meant to stop by and say hi to her...oops..I forgot.

The grandparents of the woman named Tenaya were married at Tenaya Lake.
At last year's Facelift, I met a ranger at the NPS wilderness centre named Melissa Shockley. Related to you know who.
Memoes to self:
1. Get haircut.
2. Lose weight, if necessary by signing up for one of Sooze's diet challenges. (Someone mistook me for FatTrad, already.)
3. Post some photos.
