Awesome Ouch. A supertaco poop powered toilet car. This could save America. Think about all of the commute time you could save in the morning. Poop and drive. Amazing technology. America is saved. We don't need oil. Just supertacos.
20 miles per taco. It will revolutionize commuting.

while i have long had plans for the weekend the prevented me from being up there, i was hoping to make the weeknights in yellow pines and get a bit of cleaning/climbing done. unfortunately i have gotten a bit busy w/ work (working for yourself can be unpredictable like that) and i can't break away to get up there. =/
last night the wife and i were out surfing down in pacifica, watching the sunset and the incoming waves over one shoulder and the full moon rising over the other, and while that experience was some consolation, i was thinking about SUSHI!
damn...
on the full moon too, how awesome is the valley on the full moon!

hey there all at face lift...
thanks for the share info...
say, khanom... sorry to hear only 15% of the other climbers you ran into, could spare any time... and here, too, you said LOTS of them had even already heard about it from what i saw in your quoute:
This morning I ran around C4 trying to drum up some support and interest. The good news is that about 50% of the climbers knew about the Facelift. The bad news is that only perhaps 15% I talked to seemed willing to give up some climbing time to help out. It's still gonna be huge!"
have fun... keep sharing...
best of wishes to enjoy your sushi-time...

Don't know how you missed it Karl, must have ended in Sentinel Beach. We were all there and it was a fun time. The Chefs were awesome and taught my son how to make sushi which he enjoyed immensely. He didn't want to leave and on the ride home said it was the funnest evening he had ever had.
Today was the first day of the clean-up and we had over 400 people counting children. The evening program was awesome! Tomorrow there will be some media coverage.

I had a great time on Tuesday night. Ken's son is a good kid. While he was preparing sushi I'd kind of sidle up to him, "so what's that you making?’ He'd say this is the Tuna or this is the clam, whatever it was. Then he'd slide me over a piece before it was delivered over to the table for general consumption. Like I said, I like this kid.
As the night progressed, those of us who were still standing were gathered around the prep area. Nature just kept it coming. Soft Shell Crab hot off the stove, rolled and eaten. Hamachi with just soy sauce. Other delightfuls.
I met a lot of Supertaco folks who I'd remember better if a gentleman named Jim P. and I hadn't tried to figure out if Safeway's finest was better than Two Buck Chuck Merlot.
The next day Ed and I started in Wawona, cleaning up every turnout for the first four miles. Try to appreciate how nice they're looking next time you’re in the area.
Wish I could have stayed longer.

Ken, You are DA MAN!!
What a great event. I was only able to be there for two days, and as I had to clean up a bunch of my own junk from a friends porch in mariposa, I was only able to clean in the Valley for one day, though a big day it was. I did not realize how impressive the coordinated efforts would be to remove "big infrastructural trash".
As a former park worker it seemed appropriate to join a park service buddy "Steve/aka Chewey", a new buddy, Jim, and a nice DNC guy, jason to remove the power lines running from the generator area down to the old house sites at Cascade Creek. This was actually really dangerous as the telephone poles had to be cut, while still attached to cables up high, making the cut area of the pole prone to violent displacement. Steve did a great job of chainsawing, and seemed to always know just when to stop and step back before the pole jerked ten feet to the side. We then cut and coiled the cables, bucked up the phone poles, and left them for the crew from planet granite to remove the next day. We thrashed through tons of poison oak, and all raced for the showers as soon as we were done. I hope the pick up team were smart about that or there must be some really itchy gym rats right about now.
The one evening program I attended was great, RR and Tom Frost presenting the classic "West Face of Sentinel". A number of us "kind of old schoolers" used to see this film twice a week in the late 70's and grew sick of it then, but it was cool to view it 25 years later and with the stars present.
Sushi fest was over the top in terms of quality, and I as well took advantage of Ken's son Guy who had endless enthusiasm to create the perfect hand roll. Great to meet some ST folks for the first time, and see some old friends like Nita and Andy. Only disapointment was to miss the influx of friends who came for the weekend, and to not get to meet the famous Crimpergirl.
Definately plan to schedule time for the whole thing next year.
Thanks to Ken, hope you get to sleep for a few days now!

I visited on Saturday and was impressed with the effort. I was especially impressed when I noticed climbers coming off routes with trash bags.
I had the joy of bumping into Katie while having lunch in the meadow. She was busy hauling for her latest project. I always seam to find Katie in the most interesting places.
We also bumped into the Huber brothers as the were walking back from El Cap. I thought they were very nice, plus I did like watching their video.
In the afternoon John went climbing with Wayne. I could tell they had a good time for they came back with big smiles.
Besides that, we saw John's friend Lucy during the Huber film, she is always her classic beautiful self.
We didn't see bear 46.
Sending Smiles,
Anastasia

While I find myself almost always in agreement with my friend Jeff, I do have to disclaim any relationship, climbing-wise, with Royal Robbins. To say a prune is the eastern version of a California peach – is stretching things. Just a bit. Facelift was, however, my first opportunity to meet both Royal and Tom Frost and I am moved to make my own comment, unseemly as it may be.
After the showing of the West Face of Sentinel, as one might expect, both of these gentlemen found themselves surrounded ten deep by youngsters, many of whom had traveled from the other side of the globe. I had a decision to make. The three of us, Doug Robinson, and many thousands of equally serious people had stood shoulder to shoulder through the dark days before the onset of Clean Climbing. Then everyone simply decided the costs to us of having racks that clanked on falling to the ground- were simply too great to bear. Following that revolution the relationship between all of us was and is yet secure. We had gone through the wars together. Wednesday night I decided my trying to push aside some of the youngsters in hopes of making an already strong relationship stronger, was not justified. Fortunately, Anders and Ken would have none of it. I was more affected by the meeting than I would have ever thought possible.
Here, I only restate what one sees simply by reading the posts in this forum. Ultimately the value one receives from climbing comes not from the routes and other accomplishments on the rock.

Hello Everyone,
The Yosemite visit by ABC's network television crew from New York last Wednesday through Saturday to cover the "Yosemite Facelift" volunteer cleanup effort will yield a nice piece on the evening of Monday, October 8th on ABC World News with Charles Gibson under their "Keys to Success" segment which typically airs near the end of the program.
This is significant, positive press for Yosemite that will air nationally in millions of homes.
We gathered over 42,000 lbs of trash. The major weight came from old infra-structure projects that NPS is not able to get funding for. Over 100 miles of roadway were cleaned up. The Merced River corridor was cleaned from Happy Isles to Briceburg. In addition close to 100 miles of trails were cleaned along with campgrounds and lodging areas.
Jstan was incredible as he worked long and hard everyday. Thanks to Nature for the sushi and and Mighty Hiker and George R for your extra effort. It would take me all day to list everyone that contributed beyond the call of duty. Crimpie thanks for throwing me around on the dance floor. I danced so hard that night that my knees were a bit painful.
Thank you for making this so successful,
Ken

I gotta say, Ken has amazing stamina, as his house is being remodeled during all of this. Tuesday night Nature showed up and we feasted on sushi, and played some music around the campfire.
Wednesday I picked up 65 pounds of trash in 3 hours out of Camp 4 overflow and the bus parking areas. That night, I got a chance to meet Royal, got him to sign my Denny Book, and he told me a bit about my Dad, Mike Borghoff. He then sat next to me during the whole movie! What an honor! Note: If anyone happened to get a picture of us sitting together, I would VERY MUCH like a copy. He was all smiles and patted me on the shoulder a few times. I also got Tom Frost's signature in my book. I hadn't seen Tom in over 10 years. An interesting story about Tom: When I ran into him in '95, we both realized it had been 30 years, almost to the month, since either of us had been in the valley!
Their movie was fantastic! We all gathered around th Yellow Pines Campfire "B" again for sessions of real-time spray and disjointed spurts of music.
Thursday I had the pleasure of picking up trash with Harrison Hood, a really great guy and fellow tradesman around LaConte Boulder and beyond, we gathered over 200 pounds of trash that day and had a great time hanging out and talking. That night was the Sharma movie - that was amazing, as well. Then, back to the campfire for more sushi and a bit too much sake. Late that night, I decided to stay at K-Man's house in Yosemite West and help him move a fridge in the morning. He went out the Yellow Pines driveway and took a right!!!! Jeez, that woke me right up!
The next morning I woke up in his beautiful home, glimpsing Cookie Cliff through the kitchen deck. What a place! We moved the fridge, I cooked some breakfast for us and he gave me a ride back to the Valley. He offered me a place to stay anytime I was in the area! w00t!
That day I found 200 pounds of garbage, (185 of it in an old concrete-filled tire used for tetherball). I went back to the Face-lift booth to see if I could find a truck to move this beast, but no-one had a truck available, but I spotted a shopping cart someone had picked up. I did a little spatial calculation, and rolled off with the cart clattering, feeling a little foolish as I got looks from tourons. I loaded the tire on and muled it back to the weigh-in. Phew!
Later that day, five of us had a fun adventure on the river...
Saturday I was tired from walking, so I worked the weigh-in and trash sorting area, thinking it would be easier. NOT! I did the pick-up circuit for a while with Ken's truck and riding shotgun with Grant, who smelled awful, having recieved a liquid-lettuce shower cleaning out a bear-box. Grant's a great guy, we hung out a bit in the Meadows earlier this summer.
I left Sunday morning, wanting to hit Vegas when it was cooler.
Thanks to Ken for an amazing effort in all of this. Also, for use of his tent (I lost mine driving off with it on the top of my car Monday), the gas card that saved me much time, and the post-cleanup beers. Great to meet you, Ken!
It was a real honor to meet all you folks, and a special shout out to Rick Cashner, who collected around 4000 pounds of stuff.
Ed Hartouni, you are one cool dude!
My total for the week was one abused liver, one dirty and sore body, not much climbing, and 350 pounds of trash.
Also, this year was the 45th anniversary of my visiting the valley!
See you next year! Erik

How come I didn't get a Bush Cheney T shirt Fatty?!!
It could almost serve as a "get out of jail free card" or Halloween costume in some circles.
Great meeting some new supertaco folks.
Peace
