In what way Maid?????
Just because I USED to work for the guy who owns that truck.
Him and I have been friends for a long time, and He has
told me ALL about you and your mischieveous ways.
I look forward to meeting you one of these days.

We climbed past a great many Sky Pilots on Middle Pal a few weeks ago, and I like this shot (forgive the repost if you tuned into the Random TRs thread) with the climber in the background.
If you have never come across Sky Pilots, you need to do a High Sierra face in July sometime just for the scent of these fragile beauties.

Bob, great photos! No apology needed. This thread is not exactly a TR, but so close that no one could possibly mind. If you can't stop and smell the (wild) roses, and all of the other lovelies of nature, you should not be out on the crag!
One minor complaint: if you know the flower's name, please give it. I know the first one: wallflower. A real beauty. You can easily see them as you drive into Yosemite on 120, from about May thru June, you see them on the right side of the road, just past the summit and down to the first tunnel. Real stunners, in gold. They are standing about 12" tall, and so gold that they stand out like crazy against the backdrop of pines and flower dogwoods. They stay in bloom for a long time, as succeeding higher levels on the stem burst into bloom.
How about some other flower names?
Jerry D, your photos are always killer, but a few of these seem a bit pixelated. Are you posting them in lower filesize? Thanks, still remember your killer shot of the young lady in the waterfall. Artful and yet stimulating...I see that the Cow Parsnip was at the mouth of the Russian River. I run the nature program for a kids music camp on Austin Creek, just about 4 miles up from the mouth of the Russian: http://www.davidlnelson.md/Cazadero/CazaderoIndex.htm
CF: your flower is a Tiger Lily, almost always found in a year-round seep. Was yours?
GMO: the orange one is, as we all know, the Ca Poppy, but what are the blue ones? Great translucency, with the photo angle from below. Nice.

Bob, your post just above said "shooting stars". Where you answering the question in my previous post, or is that the name of the flower in your post? Are you sure about your ID? In my experience, the shooting star in California is like this one: http://www.wildnatureimages.com/Frigid_shooting_star.htm. It is quite common, so it is in all the flower books.
Beautiful by any name, but knowing the name helps the faulty memory...

I think Bob's last pic is a Scarlet Gilia (Ipomopsis aggregata), sometimes called Skyrocket. We see them now with the Scarlet Penstemon (Firecracker, Penstemon eatonii). They are easy to confuse at first glance and I bet they exploit the same ecotome. Cheers, Great pics all.

Thanks Bob...that's very nice of you to say.
But truthfully, your photos, and those of Mr. Moth, Todd and all the rest, help keep me sane. I work in a glass and granite tower in Century City (LA), and sometimes, the only nature I see for days and days are your wonderful photos.
Even when I'm out running the hills or cycling on PCH, I can't see the flowers the way you show them to us. So again, please...you've probably got hundreds of silent fans checking out these photos here on ST, and you're making them smile as much as you're making me...keep the flowers coming!
Laura
PS. The Lycra thread, however, had to be one of your best!!! Beautiful rock and Bird-of-Paradise boys in neon-colored spandex...it was a gal's dream come true! :-)
