They are overdue, from an expedition in Tibet, where they were believed to be attempting an unclimbed ~6500m peak. There hasn't been anything in the way of freakish weather in the area where they were believed to be, so the possibility of some sort of accident is on peoples minds.
Search efforts are underway

Even though he died in late 2005, a name that deserves mention is
Jean-Christophe Lafaille
Perhaps the greatest all-around climber of this era, and maybe ever. 8000 meters, A5, M9, 5.14, ED+, you name it, he did it. His death is a sobering reminder that even for the most talented climbers, the mountains are still king.

Carlos Pinto, Chilean climber that on his first visit to the valley this past season, sent a number of great climbs, including Astroman, NIAD, Salathe in a day, HDRR in half a day, nothing impressive for current standards, but notable nevertheless...
Died on a climbing accident a couple of weeks ago, back home.

As this year moved along and with each death in this community I knew it was going to be a very sad was going to be a very long and sad list... and the holidays are yet to be over. May those of us left covet each and every day with new awe and wonder... may our fallen rest in peace... as long as we remember them they are never really gone.

The 34 year old man is survived by his expecting wife. The climbing community here in the US extends heartfelt condolences to his family and close friends. This is very sad.
In addition to being a three time world ice climbing champion he pulled hard on the stone.

Brutal. So much good that would have been both in the mountains and the hearts and minds of their friends and families lost. But ask yourself this did the thought of giving up the game ever cross your mind while making your way down the list? I’d venture to say most who died didn’t either when they encountered these lists and saw people they knew. I hope they took the time to truly envision the possibility of their demise and decided to reach for the next hold anyway. It seems to me that if you can do that your precious last seconds are filled with thoughts of love and joy not regret and fear. Maybe that kind of regret is worse than death. In my ears I hear Jim Carroll screaming “those are people who have died, died they’re all my friends why did they have to die”?
Sorry, death makes me wax poetic. James Kim-nice touch. Btw.

Erica Kutcher's death was actually in July of 2005 Jerry, not 2006. Just a heads up. I did a number of climbs in 2006 with her glowing smile still etched in my head. She'll never be forgotten.
Unfortunately, I still know people on this list for 2006. Burke was awesome. Many a fun day putzing around doing FA's with him, Todd, Tucker and the crew. I miss the guy.
Hope 2007 brings a much smaller list of those not sharing the rock anymore.

April 20, 2006
http://mountrainierclimbing.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_mountrainierclimbing_archive.html
I met this young man at Jtree a few years ago.
I was cruising the loop at HVCG on my motorcycle and looking for a site. I stopped and asked a young couple if they were leaving that night. Charlie walked up to me, extended a hand and asked me if I would mind sharing the site with him and his partner.
I stayed for 4 days with Charlie and his girlfriend Kristina. They were great company. They were down from Washington state and soon they were both returning to school. They asked me to take them on some classics and I was only too happy to oblige these eager and friendly climbers. Charlie was strong and was soon leading at my ability, although he had told me he had only been climbing a couple of years. He was a bold and fearless leader and was always a good belayer. We went on night climbs and stayed up late by the fire talking of past and future adventures.
Charlie was a bright, witty, strong young man. He was full of positive enegy. He was passionate about climbing and life in general. He was fearless.
When I left for home we assured eachother we would head out to the valley for some "big things" soon.
Charlie emailed me a few months later and asked me to join him on his first bigwall on the column. I was too busy working and did not make it.
I regret not going.
I read of Charlie's death here on this thread today.
I am so very sorry to hear this news.
Rest in peace my friend, you are in my thoughts.
