How many of you carry a supply of alcohol on bigwall adventures?
How important is it?
I would imagine "the hard stuff" has the most bang for the buck,
but I can't imagine not having a beer at the end of a productive day,
even if it was warm. What do you folks carry?
How many of you have bailed--simply because you ran out?
(That's gotta be about the best face-saving excuse I can think of)

Since I asked you start something...
Brian slipped 2 summit cans of Guiness in the piglet last weekend, unbeknownst to me. That was the first time I'd ever hauled beer, although I've brought a nip of Tequila along a couple of times. Since we topped out about 5 hours later than we'd expected, and I hadn't eaten, I had decline my beer until we got back down or else I'd have been too wasted to hike out. :-(

I usually try to pack a malt beverage, if I can find a decent one prior to the trip.
Gatoritas are good. We ain't a got mini bottles in Utar no mo, though...so...repackage in them little airline water bottles works like a champ...
Sapporo, in them burly steel cans are good. Fosters Ale in the big oil can too.
Geez, though, when its kinda late and yer knackered, sometimes swillin' a warmish beer...well...bummer to carry the weight and then not "send"...must be a weeny...Guiness...last weekend...just couldn't pour a whole one down...must have been the couple hour casual egress in the dark that skeered me off...that or being tired, dehyrdrated, hungry...(excuses!)...
I'm so ashamed...

Ah, very relevant topic, HK...the topic High End Tequila
http://supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?m=185#msg1009
had some great input on distilled spirits on high. "Scotch isn't dead - it just smells funny" was a jewel from that thread. But I believe it was Zappa's quote, and "scotch" was substituted with "jazz".
I know I have some good tequila in my office...okay, off to "work" I go...

I've always considered Guiness to be a perfectly good meal substitute.
Aren't pregnant women in Ireland supposed to drink it?
Something about being good for you and all that...
Another question:
How many of you have had to relinquish the lead 'cause you had one too many?

Mandatory... every wall route sees a wet bar of Foster's oil cans, and a fifth of either Jim Beam or Southern comfort. I could not imagine laying in the portaledge drinking only plastic flavored water. Yea, yea, I know it weighs, but it provides more incentive to pick steeper lines with better hauling. Melissa, you kidding?

Nope...I'm a light weight. Besides, I have a hard time walking across the room without wiping out when I'm totally sober. I need to have my wits about me when a few hundred feet of exposure are involved. (Albeit a few hundred feet of exposure off the side of a paved walkway...) I'm a poor excuse for a girl of Irish descent, I know.

Oops--hope I am not being "tedious" by rehashing old threads. ;-)
Somehow I missed that one.
Hopefully my questions are specific enough to distinguish this thread.

Melissa and I nearly had a major epic when the tequila spilled in the bag. I ended up carrying it, however, I declined the nite nite tequila because "I didn't want to feel yucky in the morning." Needless to say, I fortified myself the next day while having a mini rappel epic.

Wine is my personal favorite. Drank some before the ND gully descent and it certainly made it more fun and exciting.

Are you saying something about my summit "batting average" or my A0 drinking skills? ;-)
I sent the route (for once), but couldn't send the summit beer. (I'm holding Brian's beer in the picture.)

Neither. You look good with a beer in your hand. Couldn't send the beer, eh? Well, I guess that's what a rummmy partner is for... they never let any go to waste...
Nice work Mel!!!

Yeah, you plagerizing bastard. The above was a post I made to the donations thread. How dare you use it verbatim for such an undignified discussion as this one, without even correctly citing me as the source.
You'll be hearing from my attorney if I can sober him up.

I don't know Melissa...the opening to that Guiness is clearly pointed in your direction. This can only lead to a big controversy in the "rags." I can see the headlines now:
DID SHE OR DID SHE NOT, SEND THE GUINESS?

SOUTHERN COMFORT, wouldn'tleave the ground without it, and a fosters or Saporo to wash it down (i like ti strong cans). No matter how bad the bivy.. you can always sip S.C. all night long. besides it goes well with you favorite chocolate treat.
Although guiness is my first coice when I am at the car, I have had some bad experiences with the thin aluminum cans. If it punctures the CO2 cartidge cause the can to immediatly empty in a big foamy mess.

In my few days I have spent on the wall.
We had allot of Tecate and Bud, some malt crap.....and my own personal stash of Talisker.
I will take time to enjoy a cigar and Talisker every night I spend on a wall.
Wont be until May, but I will be there.
Its all good,

The Fish himself has surfaced. Was it the mention of the word "booze?"
Indeed, the OE 24-ouncer, the big fat bouncer, is the real deal. You now have to import 24-ouncers into the Valley, per government restrictions... Hmmmm??? The real story...?
As for the pills, I think I'll stick to Advil to help my aching muscles and hangover.
There are wall pros and there are swilling pros but there is only one king...
And I vote for Swilliam as Vice Prez!
...Coiler for Secretary of the State of Mind, Tucker for Treasurer of the Deli Fund, Russ for Head of Public Relations and Affairs, Klaus for Attorney General and Surgeon General (in addition to his kingmanship (though he isn't from Kingman, AZ...)), and Minerals for Secretary of Defense (KA-BOOM!)...
UUUUUUUURRRRRPPP!!!!!!!
Believe in a new goBernment!

ON THE WALL:
Guinness [see bottom right corner]
and O.E.
OFF THE WALL:
I drink the blue label porter - they drink the green label stuff
and of course Piton Beer [I liked it so much, like Victor Kiam I bought the company]
[I can't believe I don't have any pix scanned with any Julius Kessler whiskey, even though people in Kentucky misspell "whisky" as "whiskey". Hell, what do them rednecks know anyway? Maker's Mark is made in a "dry" county - you can go tour the factory, but you can't buy any of the stuff.
Sheesh.]
Man, Bryan - I still chuckle when I see that picture of Bill. But the picture of Klaus is SUPERB. I never saw Tucker round the deli much this year. Did they kick him out of his cave?
