Okay, I'll admit it, I'm *really* bummed.
Give me some reasons it's all worth it... Happy photos, what makes you get up every morning, that which puts a smile on your face. I'd love to see it. Thanks in advance.

What makes you get up in the morning. I am thinking.
It used to be the bright future, the possiblity. But I've learned that bright futures and possibilities equate to nothing more than chance.
I get up and I go about my business because people need me. My father and mother need me. Friends need me. My pets need me. The person that I am going to touch in a small way needs me.
It does not matter what we do for ourselves in this lifetime, in my estimation, but what we do for others. The best days I have are conferences with my students about writing (sometimes life): they usually take the time to tell me they appreciate my work, and the usually look a lot happier about the prospect of essay writing. It's a small thing, but it's enough to get me through the days.
Find some way to remind yourself that your life counts, and even if you're sitting home on a Friday night because all your friends are too busy to call you back and you're in a festive mood, it shouldn't matter. Somewhere out there you've made someone's life better.
Go pick up a book that may make you think, book 3 of "Diamond Heart" - "Being and the Meaning of Life" by A.H.Almaas.
He says: "Happiness, value, and pleasure are not the result of anything. These qualities are part of our fundamental nature. If we simply allow ourselves to be, this is our natural experience. You are the most precious thing in the universe, but you behave as if you are the poorest, most trivial thing there is. It doesn't really take much to see this. Just stop the whirlwind that goes on. Let yourself relax and be there. You can allow yourself to do it wherever you are. You don't have to be in the Canary Islands to be happy. You don't have to be with somoen you are in love with, and who loves you, to be happy. Putting these conditions on your happiness is a degrading way oflooking at yourself. Sure, you can be happy in the Canaries or with someone you love, but how about the rest of the time?"
". .. when we observe a child, we see that the sense of fullness, of intrinsic aliveness, of joy in being, is not inferred, that is, it is not the result of something else. There is value in just being oneself; it is not because of something one does or doesn't do. It is there at the beginning but slowly gets lost, and the fakeness just takes over."

I would like to post some pictures of my adorable fuzzy tigress, who would cheer up anyone. She is currently sitting on my lap purring. Though it is now quite late back east.
The Image Shack method seems a bit cumbersome, and there must be some fairly straightforward way to take pictures and plug them in. Is there an easier way to do this? I have the pictures on my hard drive, and just need paint-by-numbers directions. (I'm moderately computer-friendly, and tried what seemed the obvious ways.) Thanks!

Kitty photos to follow later, when I make time to figure it out. In the meantime, more lyrics. They came to mind because a relative acted in a high school performance of the play whence came the lyrics - he was Horst the teenage Nazi.
When googling, I was surprised to find that Bjork and Dido had done versions of this song.

Hi dirtineye, and thanks for the suggestion of Photo Bucket. My question should have been clearer - what I want to do is take photos from my hard drive, and post them directly in things that I post to a thread/forum. There must be some moderately simple way of doing this, as many seem to do so. I tried what seemed the obvious methods, but none worked. (I have a modern PC.)
Instructions or advice, from dirt or others, welcome. Thanks!

Well, this didn't work out quite as intended, but some pictures should be visible. They're in reverse order, the annoying tags are there, and the layout is a bit weird. Better than no pictures at all.
Anders
ps The tiger was outside stalking a crow earlier, and is now snoozing.
1. Here is Loki in her usual warm spot. She has to dyno about twice her body length to get to it, but that's easy. Her record is about six body lengths. She wanted to enter a dyno comp at the gym, but the insecure species-ist humans wouldn't let her. None of the poseurs there can even do a body length.
She's also got built-in crampons for those slippery moments.
Loki wears a harness when she needs to belay her human, but usually goes solo. No pad, either.
2. Once when Loki was tiny, a ravening wolf invaded the house. She bravely held it at bay until reinforcements arrived. (The wolf's name is Zorba.)
3. One of her first first ascents - unroped dyno, naturally. The pinnacle is still standing, but I need to get in shape before I try it.
4. Loki on the day I got her. She was a stray who'd been 'rescued' by some Buddhists, who thought that cats could be vegetarian. So she was happy to hook up with an omnivore. She wasn't so happy about the bath bit, nor were her fleas, ticks and mites.
Loki = Little Orange KItten. The itty bitty orange kitty.

But she never did. I think little buggs lived to chomp beans n peas another day.

(Ayko the wonder dog)
Getting these two started each day has always been fun. They are like one dog. They are inseparable except when going up or down stairs (I'm having to help with this as they get older).
Still, the act of getting them started with help up the stairs, putting them in the back yard, providing fresh water, food and love is as important to me as that first cup of coffee.
Several have remarked that doing for others brings them happiness, and I have to agree. It can be pets, or family, or friends, or even the stranger. I think when we achieve a balance of helping others and accepting help we can only become happy. Is that sappy?

LOL, mkbill, the one in my pic is a Gilbert, #69, by JOHN, not Bill, (Bill's are better, according to his dad John, adn John is usually right about guitar matters.) But mine is one of the better ones from their cedar era. I've tried to part with it a few times over the years, when I felt I did not deserve such a fine instrument, but there is nothing to compare, in my mind. Nothing comes close to a Gilbert if that is your sound-- crisp, clear, and distinction and separation between notes, with a proper sustain and decay.
I should confess that John is my BIGGEST fan and supporter, LOL, but since he doesn't need my help, I can say what I think.
I see young Ekat is shilling for her old man LOL!
Funny how Gill-man is embarrased to promote his wares here, but Backer and Ekat know this is the place to get people's attention.
That Mark Blanchard is some special kind of good.
Here are some pics of the Gilbert. It is a high grade professional instrument, and it will expose any flaws in your playing and technique, aas well as allow you all the exression and control you can muster.
Sorry for lousy pics.

LOL, very pretty , Ekat-- but can it fight?
(quote/paraphrase from The Dirty Dozen, Donald Southerland pretending to be a general, talkign to the as#@&%e colonel)
As for playing the Gilbert, that is a funny thing.
the finish on the top is less than a ten thousandth, and the top is cedar.
The guy who originally owned it would not let anyone play it, but I got to. He accused me of putting marks in the top above the 6th string with my thumbnail. (I don't EVER touch the top!!!!)
Later, his wife told me she had done it, she would sneak it out when David was not around and play.
I let two banjo players try it once, my late brother and another good friend, they did that idiotic thing that banjo players do, resting two fingers on the top, and put TWO GROOVES there, from their fingernails. ARGH!!!
But it's something to remember my brother by now, so, fine.
What I'm saying, YeEkat, is, Maybe, just maybe, you could play it, but ONLY if you get me a successful date with Angelina Jolie, or Darryl Hannah, and you agree to wear gloves!!!
ROTFLMAO!!!

I actually chose it just because it was so striking in appearance. It has a dark purpleish color to it. And such a fatty seed thing. Just looks very cool, I think.
If birds help themselves, that will be a bonus, I think. It hadn't occurred to me.
The tag says it is "Ornamental Millet, pennisetum glaucum, Purple Majesty." It says that the seed does attract wild birds, too.

I put out 3 bird feeders this week. Been invaded by 5 squirrels, a million house sparrows, and a handful of finches. Since yesterday, they have scattered $10 worth of feed all over the place. I shelled out raw peanuts for the squirrels so they would stop burying them all over the yard. I put the peanuts out and before the squirrels could get them, a bunch of starlings swooped in and ate them all. It's just not fair.

True True Zardoz. A year ago in February, I adopted out Pickle to a couple who are in their late 80s. Their parrot had died the Christmas before and they were SO distraught. My vet contacted me about them. So I called them out of the blue - a complete stranger - and listened to the woman grieve for about an hour regarding her bird -Winston - who was now deceased.
Then I told her I was calling because I have a bird I thought she may like to give a home to for free (fixed income folks). She broke down (and I did too of course). It wasn't easy adopting Pickle out - I wasn't looking to do so - but who could pass up this opportunity.
I drove Pickle to No. Arkansas and stayed a couple of days with them all. I cried for two weeks feeling I'd abandoned my baby bird, but I knew he was in such a fantastic home and he his. I've gone back to visit and we are in email contact. He'll come back to me when they can no longer care for him and heaven knows he'll come back spoiled.

Not so cosmic as grand views, or as lasting as good friends and family ... or dogs ... but
sometimes life hands us a good moment.
Last night we visited our new favorite restaurant again, where they serve mojitos and pulled

"Things have made a certain impressions on me. And I on them. A pet monkey. A beautiful young girl with onyx eyes only slightly older than one of my own daughters selling flowers in the hotel and out in the street. Voices singing in the night. The interaction is yet in flux. People, objects, images, feelings, they move around in time and place. They inhabit other bodies, become a part of other lives, different circumstances, and yet, somehow, stay true to their original function in life, which has no form, or many, if only satisfying some integrity perhaps not even knowable by the persons themselves, who are, after all, also perhaps the subject of some manyformed and also formless universal logic that everyone and everything is trying to understand."

Tiggers Don't Climb Trees
"Of course they can. Tiggers can do everything.' 'Can they climb trees better then Pooh?' asked Roo, stopping under the tallest Pine Tree, and looking up at it. 'Climbing trees is what they do the best,' said Tigger. 'Much better then Poohs.' 'Could they climb this one?' 'They're always climb trees like that,' said Tigger. 'Up and down all day.' 'Oo Tigger, are they really?' 'I'll show you,' said Tigger bravely, 'and you can sit on my back and watch me.' For all the things which he had said Tiggers could do, the only one he felt really certain about suddenly was climbing trees.
'Oo, Tigger-oo, Tigger-oo. Tigger!' squeaked Roo excitedly. So he sat on Tigger's back and up they went. And for the first ten feet Tigger said happily to himself, 'Up we go!' And for the next ten feet he said: 'I always said Tiggers could climb trees.' And for the next ten feet he said: 'Not that it's easy, mind you.' And for the next ten feet he said: 'Of course, there's the coming down too. Backwards.' And then he said: 'Which will be difficult...' 'Unless one fell...' 'When it would be...' 'EASY.'
And at the word 'easy', the branch he was standing on broke suddenly and he just managed to clutch at the one above him as he felt himself going...and then slowly he got his chin over it...and then one back paw...and then the other...until at last he was sitting on it, breathing very quickly, and wishing that he gone for swimming instead. Roo climbed off, and sat down next to him. 'Oo, Tigger,' he said excitedly, 'are we at the top?' 'No,' said tigger. 'Are we going to the top?' 'NO,' said Tigger..."

Smoosh up some banana in the batter, maybe even lay a strip of cooked bacon

Not an option if your waffle comes from a toaster, I guess.

What is mesquite flour?
Really really tasty....
Our organic mesquite flour is a nutritious powder with a sweet, nutty flavor, suitable for use in baking or as a seasoning on food and in drinks. The flour is ground from the seed pods of the mesquite plant, also known as algorroba, a leguminous plant found in arid areas around the world. In desert areas of the Americas, mesquite seed pods have long been used as a food source by the indigenous peoples. Today, mesquite powder is proving to be a versatile food with a high nutritional and flavor value. Because mesquite flour is ground from the entire pod, including the seed, it is high in protein (11?17%). It is also rich in lysine, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, and dietary fiber. Mesquite is also highly effective in balancing blood sugar. Because its sugar is in the form of fructose, which does not require insulin for metabolism, mesquite helps maintain a constant blood sugar level for a sustained period of time. It supports the diet of diabetics, and helps maintain a healthy insulin system in others.
