Still miss him to this day! Finally got down to making this little slide show video, featuring Munge and I climbing Castle Rock Spire. Brutus and I had originally planned on climbing this a year prior. I added a few shots of some early ascensionists as well as our own, which include Steve Roper, Mark Powell, John Salathe and Allen Steck. Hope you enjoy it. :)
To Brutus......you're with me on all my adventures. "Shine on you crazy diamond...."

Thanks, Mooch.
Brutus also liked little obscure things, which is how we overlapped.
He was a kick.

I sadly never got to tie in with him, judguing form all accounts here, he would have been high on my list. A reminder to treat others how we wish to be treated, as soon, all too soon, we too will be but memories for those who remain.
Take care all!

Lovely tribute to one whose song should be sung round campfires for as long as you live. As I'm sure it will be...

Yep....suffer we should again, Munge! Funny how heavy his spirit was when we were back there....the echo of laughter while we tipped back Gatorita, the discovery of the "Secret Bivy" spot, the warming presence while we sat in amazement on the summit, the subtle tap on my shoulder as I hung out on the mid anchor while rapping off the Spire (or as Pat Brennan would put it.....The Spaaaaaaahhr). A simple feeling like Brutus was about to go into a story about Spiked Hairdo right there in the moment.....huge smile on my face!.
The more and more I listen to Gilmour's voice and the moments captured, I find "the connection".....
Thanks Brutus!!
Love you!

beautiful, mooch (and munge). just beautiful
love it that the topo also shows Spike Hairdoo, winter ascent with"Madman" Eric Coomer. I think Brutus was especially proud of that FA.

Thanks for sharing that Dave. This video adds another page to the long and dramatic story of Castle Rock Spire and her suitors past present and future.. A touching memoir to a man I've only read about but who seemed to mean so much to so many. I even saw my little sketch I did a while back represented here. Fun. I'd love to lay hands on that spire someday and add my own footnote to the novel. Thanks again.
