So Roy made Jane cry, but Cilley made her "see stars McClenahan"!!!!!! hahaha!

Remember when we were at Janes in Mammoth with Skip and we watched Jane split a cord of wood while we did gin and tonics on the porch.... then me and Skip went to get food stamps at the local deadbeat office and they told us we were too poor to get any aid.... They smelled a rat and then got us both in the same room to continue the interview... so the guy asks me how I make money to live... and I say "by selling misc. personal items"........ (long pause) .... "like socks"!!! Skip starts cracking up and we get the boot. Truth was I did sell socks.. I got one of those 20 pair packs from somewhere and was selling them like hotcakes in Camp 4. Oh well.... We even parked Skips hot rod Lancia down the street just in case they wanted to see our car....

What The?
Ho Man. Maybe we can rig a hackneyed spoof shot up here...

The first time Long and the Fish met, both resisted the aquaintance heavily:

Largo: "Little Roy, 'need a ride to the crags, swing by and get me champ"

Roy: "Sure, I'll have to ask the Fish, he's drivin'"

Largo: "Gaahhh, anybody but that clown, what other options?"

Fish: "You want me to drive all the way to Santa Monica to pick up that Blow Hard?, too far outa the way babe!"

On the way to Josh, it was like a meeting of the Kings of smear: Fish pulled every goofball saying or gag in his bag, while JL furrowed his brow in consternation at all of it. By the time we piled out of the Time Machine into the darkness of HVC, it was like I no longer existed, the whole thing had turned 180 and these guys were trading endless barbs, laughing hysterically and on a roll...

Over in the Stonemaster thread they were speaking (derogatorily of course) of Henry Barber... I was reading an old rag the other day about the Cilley-Barber route on Mt Katahdin in Maine, a fairly gnarly winter ice route put up in 1973. It said Barber's partner was Dick Cilley. Now, there can't be two Dick Cilleys in the climbing world, but what's the scoop? Scary hard (for the time) long ice routes with significant soloing stretches at what, age 15?, just doesn't fit with the guy I met in the Valley a few years later. You around Leroy? Tell us a story!

(really now, not permitting links is just so contrary to the intardweb)

I mean really, does this look like Dick's kind of place?

Best thing that ever happened to me, knocked a little much needed sense into me. Just a little though. Tar, I forget the name of the area in Josh in 84' KS did a cool 11d tr called Baba O'riley, I think it has bolts now. Tuolemne FA? onsight soloed? Could be selective memory but that one must've been deleted from my hard drive in that crash of 89'. I dont doubt the story though-

'K Kenny,
Across from the Hall of Horrors, you guys named that whole area Teenage Wasteland, so Baba O'Riley is a close hit.

The other stuff was perhaps Murphy Creek, or a canyon down by the west end of Lake Tenaya. I do tend to get that confused with the canyon out of Olmstead Point. Anyhow, you and Kurt cleaned and fired a bunch of cracks there. I remember Bachar, Waugh and myself doing these things solo on a major TESTOSTERONE BENDER when you showed them to us, after you nabbed the firsts. One in particular had sequential locks to a cool Gaston section up higher. It's all in the book.

Goin home to post up some more jive now.

Earlier today, JayBro dispatched a most dis-concerting proposition: sources purport the existence of multiple Leroy, 2 at the minimum, likely 3.

(This could explain Off Whites record of the 50 state "Age of Consent" knowledge claimed by DR Leroy).

Anyhow, I followed up. After reading JayBra's post I engaged in a flurry of text messages, assiduously cross checked arcane climbing publications with women's undergarment catalogues and dubious investigative reporting of random salacious comments.

We Know there is an East Coast Leroy.
We Know there are 2 West Coast Leroys.
We know (in as much as BS is knowing) that Leroy's Great Uncle was capable of a-sexual reproduction by virtue of an anomalous female reproductive organ planted square in his back. Don't believe this phony baloney? Ask Russ. Go ahead, ask 'im.

So be on the lookout.

East Coast Leroy:
Don't do it. This is not yer man.
Check the meek stance. Don't be drawn in by this Dick.

West Coast Leroy:
Note the steadfast confidence.
This is the guy you want leadin', 'cause he knows where he's goin'.

One of the best how to manuals ever written. I wish I still had my copy grease and all.

hey 'tar, did connie ever give you the blow-by-blow on spider dan's vegas second-string "showboys" act, where the finale involved dan, clothed in nothing but a g-string that would make chrissy griffith blush, fires off an iron cross?

fukkin' gigilo....

Beebs,
Per the Spider Dan Vegas show:
Dan Michael and I went to Vegas in Fall '80 to 'suss out the whole climbing scene there. This is before Lynny and Largo took up with Grandstaff; I guess before MP and I went to Oly to climb Rainier and met Connie (whole story in itself, Deadly Heads).

So, my contact in Vegas was "Indian Dan" aka "Spider Dan" aka "The Nudest" (Hey Bachar, remember Hyperion Arch in Josh, right after you and Gramicci came back from Patagonia?, Dan strippin' fully and Lynn wippin' off her Shirt?). Anyhow, (My inlaws just handed me a dram of Macahlan 12 year here in Boston), Dan Michael and I hooked up with Spider Dan to learn something of the routes in RedRocks. To find Dan, we had to first go to the "Blue Room Lounge" in LV. Ya, we witnessed the whole act: "The Dorian Gray" thing. Dan evolved this skit, where he transmogrified from way old man to young stud. At the young stud crescendo, he gets propped out under darkness on stage, leading to rising light, while hanging from a pull up bar in a G String, while doing one arm lower offs.

He said he had to tweak his act from one arm pull ups to lower downs, in order to save his arms...

Then, there is the 'Dan leads a nuclear demonstration on the east coast story', replete with flaming arrows, during sunrise and full moon set...

Yeah Natural Dan we first called him after the Hyperion strip down session....he barely climbed back then too. He hadn't morphed into a 'spider' yet..

Yeah that other photo was taken waaaaay behind Queen Mtn. (like at least 10,000 miles behind)...ha! jb
