anyone else tired of the false promise of "why do so many people believe in god (serious question)"?
this thread gets more PPDs than "why are those republicans so wrong on everything" and will likely bypass it just in time for christmas. if we act now, we can kill this puppy and enjoy the holidays.
one of the great drawbacks of this thread is the artwork, apparently lifted from the atlas of world mythology and covers of 3rd and 4th paperback printings of the dancing wu li masters. this thread deserves murder in the first degree because it killed the evolution thread, which had the most hilarious artwork i've seen on ST. it doesn't even appeal to prurient interest, as we got at the beginning of the 9/11 thread or currently in "girls kissing girls". as usual, religion dampens both imagination and libido.
you will notice that the god thread doesn't come near to being a discussion. everyone stands fast in their inflexible positions. they don't listen to what others are saying. no one ever changes their minds. religion is like that. if things slow down, someone jabs someone else where they know it'll hurt and the torrent of babble rushes onward.
probably the best way to approach this is some premeditated ad hominems aimed at the principals. let's rake them over for climbing or philosophy, whichever might be most vulnerable. even if we can't hurt them, they might spend so much time defending themselves here that they'll forget to post over there. (haha, in my dreams.)
here are my candidates:
HFCS
ed hartouni
karl baba
go-b
largo
wbraun
others come and go. poor klimmer got so weary he stayed away for nearly a week. if i left you out and you're offended, i'm sorry, but these are the heavies who keep it going. if we break up this group, the god thread will begin its death rattle.

Alright, I'll contribute. HFCS is as ass. Sometimes I've wondered if he is even a climber. I don't know, does one or two pitches on toprope under someone's belt make him a climber? I don't think so.

hey Tony, the "god thread" is the thread you've posted the most to...
in fact, we'd all like to have you post a climbing thread sometime, you're big on the social stuff around here... but every once and a while it's nice to put up something on climbing.
how 'bout it? got anything?

The days before these long threads meant the same comments were sprinkled in the climbing threads derailing many of them. I like that these topics have their own threads now.

What's up with this thread? I was getting ready to post a favorable review of the Psychic Research book you recommended on the God thread?

Simple solution - don't read it and don't post to it. If folks want to contemplate the universe and find God, I'm all for it. There is an element of spirituality in climbing for many.
Let God live!

As for deleting threads, the Girls Kissing Girls thread get my vote. Have to disagree, Jan. There is something about "gkg" that goes straight to the core. Sure it's genetic. Sure it's hormonal. Sure it's a mystery. Sure it's inexplicable and ineffable. But it's all good.

I think so
If there is, I would sure love to hear from them

"if we act now, we can kill this puppy and enjoy the holidays."
Is a thread in a forum really affecting your enjoyment of life? And killing it off would improve your quality of life?
Really?
That thread is obviously of interest to some people, and if it keeps the religi-tards mostly in one place like the 'Repubs are Wrong' thread does with the politi-tards, that's a good thing, right?

nita, you'll notice an enormous gap in the god thread between oct. 5, 2006 and may 7, 2010. i suspect it's one of those threads which the wizard of oz revives from time to time because of all the flies settling on the barbecue.

pate, lad, confession is good for the soul. were it in my power to absolve you of this sin, i would.
you're not the only sinner out there. i was following the recent loomis psychdelic thread and mentioned it to scotty in a phone conversation and he didn't know what i was talking about. turns out he had started it 3-4 years ago, it died a natural death, and then it arose again. maybe there really is something to this religion stuff.
i will never be able to forgive HFCS for ratting on me and dr. f to largo, however. it spoiled a lot of good, clean fun. and i think he's shown his true colors. he's trolling for hardwomen, same as the rest of us.

ah largo, the king of the trick question. why don't you just go back and post a little more on the god thread? it's in the ICU right now. i didn't think it would die this fast. i'm feeling a (rather small) twinge of guilt. but heck, if HFCS can spoil our fun, we can spoil yours.

There's always been some political threads and some religious threads. Kill the monster ones and you'll get numerous wanna-be ones.
Personally, a very few threads that take up these basic sort of questions is an improvement over many half-baked repetitiions

Tony, You want to kill it out of frustration? You jumped in and posted like crazy. Not bad contribution either.
BTW, the way to kill a thread is to NOT post to it.
PS: You've only been here a few months and very active. I think you missed the neoLEB statement. Search "LEB" in the forum and see her posts. I don't think you're neoLEB at all. LEB is LEB and Tony Bird is definitely "Tony Bird."
