We are having a silent art auction at the Ansel Adams Gallery with all proceeds benefiting the Yosemite Climbing Association. The auction is from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Saturday July 10, 2010. There will be hors d'oeuvres and wine served. This is a great opportunity to acquire some nice art at a great price. Artwork will be up for three days and if you can't be there on Saturday you can have one of the Gallery workers proxy bid for you.

If any of you artists out there are in a position to donate that would be great.

This is our single biggest fundraiser and is a lot of fun.
Thank you,

Ken

Hi Ken,

I purchased that extraordinary photograph by Michael Frye at the 2007 art auction. It was one jewel of that event.

Shamefully, I must admit that it sits in its original box, in my home office. Back then, I believe I paid about $550 or so.

If you do not mind accepting previously purchased art, I would be happy to donate it back to the YCA for this fund raiser. Send me a PM.

The July date, for this event, is much better than November. The tourons will be out in force, with dollars to spend.

Best to you,

Ken,

On my travels up here in No. Cal discovered a new artist, Phil Bone, a climber from bitd Sonoma. He is, I think, super talented. I'll see if he will donate one of his pieces. Lynnie

There will be MANY more people there in July. Mostly tourists, yes, but they tend to have more $$ than climbers. You may need to take it outside since the gallery may be too small for the crowd.

And how about a loud (not-silent) auction? People can hold up pine cones with their ID number on them or something...

Ken, I think Phil and Constance Bone traveled to the Valley of Wow yesterday and donated a painting for the YCA auction. I was lucky enough to be one of the first to view Phil's work. I bought a great piece. I'll attempt to post the pic here. It's one of the first he sold, I think, and I am golden to have it in my life. So this one I call Golden ..... Spirit of the Valley.

After I bought Phil's Golden Spirit of the Valley I found a photo my son Seth took of the Valley. Amazing how similar the gold and greys of the rock in the photo are replicated in the same gold/grey color of the "rock spirit" Phil painted.

I asked Phil what and how his work evolved from. He said the time in the Valley along with personal and life challenge. (That's my take. Phil could say it all alot betta.) Check out his art....Glad I had a serendipity experience to do so. Peace and Joy, lynnie

Hi Ken. I am thinking maybe this one, what do you think?

I have many of course but we have an auction situation which pre-establishes some stuff, doesn't it. Like something Yosemite themed sort of. I can do one, mounted on an appropriate board. Digital photo print, hi res, archival pigments.

How about this one?
Or this one? Let me know. They are all biggish too. Like greater than 14 x 14, some quite a bit larger up to 24 x 30-ish

Johntp,

It is as current as I can make it. There is quite a bit more that has rolled in at the last minute and I haven't had time to scan or photograph. There are things promised that I haven't seen yet. This part is the toughest about putting together an auction. I will try to get as many images up as I can. Kathy Green donated some really nice silk scarves. I hope people show up and others proxy bid by calling the Gallery. YCA has Harding stamps, 50th anniversary cancellation stamps, Descent Magazine collections, YCA t-shirts and 2 50th anniversary fliers signed by Mark Powell, Wally Reed, Allen Steck, George Whitmore, Wayne Merry, Rich Calderwood and Ellen Searby. There will be a raffle with these items with artwork and also the same items available to bid on. I hope to see a good turnout.

Johntp,

If you call the Gallery, you can have one of the people there put in your minimum bid to start with. You will need to give them your maximum bid and they will bump the bid up when others are bidding and will stop at your maximum bid. They will try to get you the best price that they can. It works pretty well. Call (209) 372-4413, ask for Kate.

I will try to do some tonight and some tomorrow. I don't have digital images of everything and a few things are coming in tomorrow. I will have one set of Descent Magazines up for auction and one set for the drawing. I will have a sheet of Harding stamps with 2 cancellation stamps for the drawing and for bid. I also have 2 Nose 50th Anniversary flyers that were signed by Wayne Merry, George Whitmore, Rich Calderwood, Mark Powell, Wally Reed, Allen Steck and Ellen Searby, one will be auctioned and one is for the drawing. There are only 20 of the flyers that are signed by all seven of them.

"MetalPrints™ represent a new art medium for preserving photos by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum sheets. Because the image is infused into the surface and not on it, your images will take on an almost magical luminescence. Great video Jerry! It was a pleasure to meet you finally. You are one talented photographer.

I want to thank everyone that donated work and everybody that showed up. These auctions are a lot of fun. Thank you so much.

Every piece sold and some people got incredible deals. All expenses were covered and some money was raised for YCA. The only thing that would have made it better was if there were a larger turnout. I had wine and food left over. We will do it again next year.

My house is looking pretty sharp right now.

Nice! Glad to hear you threw down for some of the fine artwork.

Now about that wine...you going to give Jeff a run for his money as wine-provider at Facelift? ;)

Glad it went well, Ken. See you in September.

Ken-

Just curious. I had a proxy bid on Glen Denny's Climber on New Dawn. Guess I did not win. What did it go for?

I love the picture of a happy Rick and my bald head.

Thanks for documenting,
