Curry Village Upper Pines Lower Pines North Pines Closed Until Further Notice
Due to the recent rockfall from Ahwiyah Point near Half Dome on March 28 Curry Village and all Pines Campgrounds will remain closed until the risk of additional rockfall can be assessed. Visitors with existing reservations will receive priority at the remaining Valley campsites - Yellow Pines and Camp 4. All trails and climbing in the area are off-limits until further notice.

Plenty of people are pissed, I woke up in the valley this morning and they were packing everyone up and making them move...We just left the valley because it was too much bullshit fighting with turons for a new space...good luck out there...

It's sad that the most important rock climbing area on the planet has such a horrendous camping situation. Even with every venue open, the camping restrictions and the overall ambience fall far short of meeting climber's needs. That said, the NPS has their hands full trying to deal with overwhelming demand. 33 million people within easy driving distance doesn't help.

News from the valley - closures confirmed
Rangers turfed the tour-ons out this morning. Everyone had to pack their sh*t and move on. Camp 4 is full of massive wallymart tents and propane lamps. Bernie from the Mountain Shop has set up a booth in the Cafeteria next to the Cappuccino machine . What a disaster.

Yosemite Park To Close Until Further Notice
Preliminary analysis of the recent rockfall from Ahwiyah Point near Half Dome on March 28 indicates a high probability of further rockfall from numerous locations in the Valley. All access to the park will remain restricted until further notice. The guided train tours will resume once proper armored roofing has been installed. All safety personnel and park employees must wear approved hard hats at all times.

True, but it's folks coming from distance that get hosed. [jealous rant] Those damn Californians are blessed with sooooo much beautiful and solid rock outside of the valley. One can go to Kings canyon, Hetch Hetchy, Lost World to avoid the crowd of 60,000 on the weekend if one chooses........[/jealous rant right here]
ps, April fools Peter! Ha ha, nice timing.

When are you going to be in the valley? I'll be there next week - maybe we can reminisce about the good old times we've had on Supertopo.

I'm repeating this from the Ahwiyah point rockfall thread.
Peter stated, "Looks like the rockfall will result in a lot more closures around the valley..." This rockfall has not caused any more campground or lodging closures in the Valley. All Yosemite Valley campgrounds are open.
