Anyone know of good beta on the Needles that can be found on the net? I have heard that there is an out of print guide book to the area, is this true and are there copies around?

the guidebook is out of print, i heard there may be a new one coming out but i dont know when (or if thats even true). the only info i've found on the net were some trip reports (maybe some brief route info on rockclimbing.com, but not too helpful). i've only been there twice, but you can email me for whatever info i have. its one of the best areas ive ever been to.

If you can find a copy of John Harlin III's "The Climber's Guide to North America West Coast Rock Climbs" (2nd edition is the one I have) it has a section on The Needles in it with routes superimposed on pictures. The guide does not have the "standard modern beta" so be prepared to epic on some of the routes... on the other hand, I don't think the standard scary sandbag routes are mentioned...
best would be to find a copy of the Moser, Vernon, Paul guide "Southern Sierra Rock Climbing; Needles Area"
Climbing 138 June/July 1993 and Climbing 198 November 1, 2000 both have articles featuring the Needles with route descriptions, etc...
There is more out there...

A word of caution: The first bolt on Strange Brew on the Magician is now missing a hanger (slight rope drag pulled it out)...this was the mental and the physical crux of the climb for me, don't fall here.
No goal but the path, Hamid.
