Hans and Yuji are going to try and break their Nose record on October 12. As far as big wall spectating goes, this is as good as it gets. Would you agree Tom?

(I don't know when they will start but probably around 6-7am)

hey there chris and all.. say, i was wondering now, as to the weather and winter storms, and all the stuff i am learning here:

why is oct the day... and not an un-pre-winter day... or other days, just too hot, or not, or too crowded...

just wanting to learn a bit more, is all...thanks all....

say, i did the search here"

hans has a nice ad for his book (i dont know him, but am just letting you all know) (and has a supertopo ad, as well)...

he has (i think it is him) a really neat "click on el cap" and see ascent rourtes... (then you see the list)...

*i did NOT copy the pictures, as it says NOT TO... but say, was it alright to share this LINK so you all could go see it????

I asked Hans and Yuji the other day why they wanted to go for another speed record when they already held it, and Hans told me that Japanese television wants to film it.

Yuji doesn't appear to be slowed down much by his sprained ankle. I did a much better job on my ankle a few years ago, missing out a whole season and filling my bones with plates and screws.

I wish I could be there in the Meadows to cheer them on, but unfortunately I'm back in the Great White North in time for Hoser Thanksgiving, eh? However the autumn coloUrs are fantastic up here in Ontario.

Best of luck, Hans and Yuji!

Cheers,
Pete

Who says Pete has crabs? I thought that one was beaten to death ages ago. :-)

When I saw Hans a few days ago after the first fast attempt, he said it was a bit too warm up there. Suddenly we have a cold snap and I can't imagine starting up at 6, but what do I know.

Even the attempt they called "fair" was faster than their 2002 record!

Took us longer to solo royal arches later in the day with overnight packs on!

Why do they want to cause a spectacle? Seems to me, it would be better if they didn't call the media and everyone else to El Cap meadow to watch it unfold. We really don't need crowds of tourons there. Obviously they want attention.

"Obviously they want attention"

Flights from Japan cost money and Yuji is pro. Hans woudn't apologize for being hollywood either. Some good publicity for climbers in the valley keeps our sport from being marginalized.

Dang cold this morning! I'll see ya'll down there at the finish line
