Been busy lately...
These are from a trip to the Hoover Wilderness the last week in July with my dad, brother, and two nieces. These are all digital with no adjustments. I have a slew of film shots but my scanner seems to be putting a nasty color cast on them and they look really weird when the cast is removed. If I can figure it out or get a new scanner soon I will post those for comparison. As you can tell, I like reflections. Click here for a page of photos on my site.
My son, niece, and daughter on Spring Dome at Courtright about 10 days ago.
A couple sunsets while camping on the Big Sur Coast a week ago.
My son and I at the newly paved over and developed(and subsequently ruined camping spot) Le Conte Divide Overlook near Courtright last night.

Randy, might as well make this a slide scanner thread too. My Konica-Minolta must be getting tired because the color cast on my scans is getting worse.
Do you recommend a Nikon Coolscan V? Is there anything else?

Which?
I am STILL the one and only. I have never changed. Just figured it was time for a username change and the last one irritated a few folks so I am now "Flashlight"...shining the light of truth on Supertopoland.

No, no - you mean "Shining The Light of Truth on SuperTopoland".
It's important to imply that you're using proper nouns, that is to say that you're saying something Important.
Anyway, the pictures cast their beneficent light upon me. Thanks!

Jody -
First, are you really going to be in TM this weekend? Making an appearance at the DOA event?
Slide Scanners... OK.
The Nikon gets really good reviews. The Coolscan V is a good scanner. It's a bit slow, but unless you plan on running a business with it, it should work well for you. I would avoid using their software and look into third party software, as the included software hasn't been updated since like 2004. Yikes! It crashes in XP here and there. I can't report on Vista, since I have avoided Vista like the plague. It seems to work well with Apple too.
You're probably going to want to do most of your work in Photoshop and avoid using GEM, as well. Noise Ninja and NeatImage do a far finer job with the noise/grain (there will be a LOT of grain too). Also, when scanning slides to 4000DPI, you may end up seeing flaws in your glass, that you don't see otherwise.
All in all, the Nikon scanner is a fine choice. In the mean time, you might check into having Costco scan your slides. They do a really good job and are super cheap, of course. They don't advertise this service, but they do offer it.

I am looking at the Nikon seriously.
My slides actually look better than the digital ones above...I just can't duplicate that quality in the scan.
Costco? I didn't even know that. Years ago before I bought a slide scanner WalMart would scan them for about 20 cents. They were fairly lo-res so good for internet display but terrible if you wanted prints from them.
What exactly do you mean by "crashing with XP"? Can I still do the basic scanning operations with the Nikon software? I use ACDSee for all my after scan stuff which isn't much.

Thanks Matt...I'll never convince people otherwise but there really was no deception intended by my use of that name. I thought it was cool sounding and I have always liked Galen's work so I used it.
Now, I am "Flashlight", shining the light of truth on the dark world of Supertopo.
Being with kids in the mountains is the ultimate in fun. Especially my six year old. He just loves it and never wants to go home, even after being stung by two bees and burning his hand on the lantern.
