And the winner is...

Yosemite National Park Superintendent Mike Tollefson announced today that the Tioga Road will open for the season on Wednesday, May 21 at 8:00 a.m. for all vehicle traffic. The Tioga Road, bounded on both sides by State Highway 120, is the popular east-west crossing of the Sierra Nevada. There will be no commercial services available along the road. Additionally, the Tuolumne Meadows Campground, other campgrounds along the corridor, and the Visitor Center will not be open. However, there will be restrooms available on the road. All visitor services, including the campgrounds, store, gas station, etc. will open over the next several weeks.

Also, the cables on Half Dome are up for the season. The cables allow visitors an opportunity to climb to the top of Half Dome and view the park from an elevation of 8,842 feet above sea level. (S. Gediman - 5/19/08)

It should cool down starting tomorrow night, so if you want to just chill in the valley...maybe now there will be more space!

I know I'll be in Tuolumne this weekend!

Have Fun,

I'm sure more than one SuperTopian has already gone through it... it's been open to administrative traffic for a few weeks.

I remember a real heavy year up on Hwy 4, you could turn the wheel loose and the car would bang off the 15 foot vertical berms like a Swiss toboggan run.
Just make sure you do it at night, with your lights off, so you can detect oncoming traffic.
Their headlamps will travel up the pass like it was a fiber optic cable.
Use something big, just in case some jackass has the same idea.
Like a 63 Caddy.
Full moon works best.

Heylo everyone,

Newbie here, been following the other thread about opening date for the Tioga pass and it seem that you guyz/galz are the best place on the net for this topic, so I finally sign-up just to say Thank-You and join a great community.

Wifey and I are going to a friend wedding in Yosemite next week, they're getting marry on a Wednesday inside the park, so it's been fun anticipating what date the Tioga pass open so we can plan our trip. We were so excited to hear that it will open on the 21st. I was jumping in joy when i saw the update .. lol .. Hopefully by next week, not on a weekend, it wont be too crowded. We'll post some picture when we get back. Once again, Heylo to everyone.

DNC is trying to get the store open for the weekend but they may not make it. Otherwise it will be next weekend for the store and Grill. There are no other services open.
