Anyone of ya'll's have any advice or insight on generators? I'm not planning on Powering Burning barn but rather lights and maybe a coffee maker, etc. so I don't need huge wattage. I'd like something super quiet.
Anyone remember what the make of that one was we had in Yosemite in Yellow Pines?

Honda. There are cheaper gensets out there, but they are much louder, and won't last nearly as long. Even though I'm a motor head, I can't stand the sound of a genset in a camping area. When it comes to cooking and light when camping, fire is the way to go.
But if your power demands are really marginal, you might be better off running a power inverter off the car battery. Better yet is just bringing a dedicated marine batter to power the inverter. Well, coffee makers pull a fair bit of power.

yeah, for general camping I go with solar/battery/inverter and run just a couple florescent lights. But I'm talking SushiFests with 40-50 people where we have lots of lights and other things requiring power. It sucks to have the batteries run dry.
Small and quiet - 2K Watts at the most. (The coffee maker pulls 1000K)

If you do the battery/inverter thing go with 2 six volt batteries in series. Triple the A-hours and the life of the battery is much longer than a 12 volt. Ask any RV people.

More people, bigger fire ;-)
You guys need to do a sushifest up here, I love sushi! I also found a decent spot to catch yellow eye last summer, which my fishing buddy claims makes the best sashimi.

It's really quiet, you can hold a normal conversation standing next to the EU1000. It's a muffled purrr.
Go to a Honda generator dealer and hear for yourself and you'll be amazed how quiet and light these babies are.
Edit: Plus they have the bonus of charging your 12VDC batteries too.

You can build a sound reflector to put around the generator to reduce the noise. We always had them in our tree planting camps since we needed generators to run the refrigerators.
The reflector was basically a corner built out of 3/4" plywood. It helped a bit but I'm sure something heavier will do better. One guideline I read was that it should block the line of sight to wherever you're trying to quiet and be heavy.

Look at that gorgeous fish! What a beauty.
edit: hahah - I just noticed that the Google Ads atop the page are for "Silent" and Quiet Generators.... Gotta hand it to Google; They really have their crap wired.

I got the Honda EU1000 on ebay. Used for $500. As promised, light and quiet.
Not sure it'll pump the PA but at least the sushi tent has lights...

Amazing - a gadget to generate quiet! Something right out of Harry Potter. Were the people in the sand dunes complaining again? It would be a really handy thing to have, like a cloak of invisibility. Maybe they sell them at the village store?
That is, assuming some nosy ranger doesn't take on the role.

I had a Kohler a while back.
I'd go out to Valley of Fire, climb and drill, blast my stereo till the battery died, and then charge up both the truck and the Bosch, and rock on.
A nice accessory.

Nature,
I bought a Honda EU-1000 last spring to power an ice machine in Death Valley. It worked real well. I will bring it to Face-Lift if you want to use it.
