Post up people.
We all hear alot about Aamon. But we never really hear about Brother Gabe.
I first met those two at the Alcove Swing. When Aamon did his drop from the 3rd pitch of South Seas...holy fuk'n chit...
gabe convinced these 2 japanesse guys to do the swing. ONly one did it in the end.
Even after a few years of seeing him he remembered my name. doens't sound like a big deal, but how many people do you meet that will remember you and treat you like a friend/climbing partner.??
Gabe has a solid heart like his brother. He is there to help others. Regardless of their climbing ability. Aamon as well don't get me wrong.
This last summer he helped alot of people carry loads to the base encouraging them on their next adventure on the high sea. Even signed on as a second mate to help 2 long time buddies climb the captian.
Gabe, my brother from another mother, Im glad to cross paths with you. You are a solid person and friend. Anytime you need a vacation, as well as your bro....Im on Maui.
Merry X-mas and happy new year. And I'd be stoked to do the North American Wall with ya next summer.

I first met Gabe up in the Pinnacles of Big Bear abot 5 years ago. For some reason I was up there just farting around with a girl I was dating at the time, came upon these guys climbing, recognized Ammon from Todd's house in Josh, and just chatted for a bit. I think Gabe must have been a bit heavier muscle-wise back then (compared to the pics above) because when Ammon introduced me to his brother, I thought he was half bear. But then I hear of his exploits and that he is just as bad-assed on the rock as his brother, I came to realize that he is just a Monkey like the rest of them.
But yeah, both of those guys are the most genuine, nicest folks I have met. It's nice to see some true experts that don't hog all of the media lime-light like some skinny dorks with mattresses strapped to their back do.
Thanks for bringing positive vibes to all those you encounter!!!

Thanx Aamon. But you and your bro made my summer climbing trip stellar. I felt bad about missing him on my last day for a ride to Tahoe....but I got caught up spending sometime with someone.
Let me know if you ever make it back out here Aamon...you should take gabe with you next time.
I got my B licence at Pacific Skydive on the N. shore of O'ahu. So you should even come out for some jumping. And I want to ask you something(aamon) about next summer...
We'll chat.
I like that pic. of Gabe. Its fuk'n funny.
Aloha gabe and Aamon.

I met Gabe at "the bridge" on June 1/07. I was just coming to hang with Tom and the guys after a wall. The next 5 days were spent sharing beers, lies and the odd smoke with one of the most laid back guys you will ever meet. I look forward to seeing you next time I make it to the valley. Live long, strong and wild.
Cheers,
Doug

Haa haa, yeah... poor Austin didn't know he would become our "tempurpedic mattress" that night on the single FISH.

One of my all-time most fun nights on the wall was with Ammon, Gabe, Chongo and Nick on Big Sur Ledge when Nick and I climbed Sea of Dreams in May, 2001. It became known as the Big Sur Keg Party.
Chongo had ropes fixed all the way to Big Sur - they had been up there all winter and were pretty ratty, so he strung three over each section. By putting an ascender on each of the three ropes when ascending, Chongo reckoned they were safe.
It had been really hot, and Nick and I took a day off. We radio'd Chongo in the Valley, and told him we were running a bit short of food and water. "No problem," said Chongo. "I've got extra stashed on the Continental Shelf - I'll bring it up to you." So the next day Chuck jugged all the way to the Shelf, at least a thousand feet up.
Meanwhile, Ammon and Gabe were several hundred feet left of us on South Seas. So that day, Nick led up and left while Ammon led up and right, and we managed to join ropes, and pull Ammon and Gabe over to Big Sur.
Now Gabe is a pretty big guy, and Chongo was pretty tired from all his jugging the day before. So we lowered a pair of joined haul lines 400' down from Big Sur to the Shelf, and Chongo sent up some food and water. He left his minnow bucket on the Shelf, however. Then Chongo tied the end of the haul lines to his harness, and began jugging his trios of ropes up to Big Sur while Gabe hauled him like a madman, eyes and muscles bulging! Chongo was up in minutes!
Of course, such exhausting activity called for a beverage. It just so happened that Nick and I had brought up a Big Wall Beer Keg, and it was time to tap into it. "Sorry, Ammon - we've only got two cups, you'll have to wait ..."
Ammon grabbed an empty water bottle and a knife, and sliced himself a Big Wall Beer Cup in about three seconds flat. It was under the spiggot in a heartbeat!
The full moon was out, and the Green Dragon came by later and we all yelled at it and drank beers. We dressed up like pirates - I wore a Captain Hook on one hand. I put an eyepatch on Wee-Wee, and made him a similar hook with a Cliffhanger. Arrrrrrr!!!
I've got photos on slides - I'd have to pull out the slide scanner and see if I can figure out how to scan them.
