The "Responding to Turd" thread was a lot of fun
http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?topic_id=295677
Lois is a good sport too. I'm starting this thread for folks who want to converse in LEB style. Imitation is a form of flattery.
This is not a "slag on Lois" thread. Start your own for that.
Maybe somebody has a question for Lois or she has something she's like to talk about. I always thought she wrote a bit like an advice columnist. How about a "Dear Lois" column?
Peace
Karl

Dear Lois,
What action would you suggest for one who is stuck in a two man tent on a mountain above Truckee for two weeks in constant blizzard conditions and the other dude is a weird Texan who spends every waking moment abusing himself?
What is the medical term for such a dilemma?

"Dear Lois", the agony aunt of SuperTopia. The idea chimes.
Her soon to be rectified lack of climbing knowledge need not be a barrier to her providing sage advice on other topics. Even Ann Landers didn't know everything. She just made sure she knew someone who did.
I also (usually) enjoy LEB's style and questions, though she might read some of the hard-won answers a bit more thoroughly.
It would be interesting to learn why LEB chose the cats and dogs she has, as opposed to other breeds. Are they a window into her soul?

That's a PERFECT question Hiker.
They say folks are like their pets. Is it just looks or also temperment. A result of the owner's choice, karma, or time spent together. Nurture or Nature (no pun intended)

Speaking of nursing, I hear there are places in the South where they don't wean their kids until they are about 18.

This forum desperately needs a new tab for the off-nursing topics. IMO.

Dear LEB:
What are some options to surviving this tenure-seeking hell? I am 4.5 of 6 years in. Will the agony ever end? Or is there more tenured agony awaiting me?

LEB: Sad to hear of both your dawgies dying at the same time. What happened?
Border collies are one of my favourite kinds of dawgs, but with the amount of exercise and attention they need, it's easy to understand why so many end up in shelters. I once did a climbing trip in England and Wales, hitchhiking around and visiting various famous areas. One of the bonuses was seeing sheep dogs in action - marvellous fun. Even better, the people responsible for border collies refuse to allow them to be pedigreed (or something like that) - which means they avoid the vicious inbreeding that goes on with other dogs.
If god means "food and warmth and scratches" in Cat, then yes, cats go where god tells them to go. Especially strays and shelter cats.
I looked up my own quote - "I will not make windows into men's souls" is something that Queen Elizabeth I said, in reference to not looking too closely at what religion people had, as long as they were loyal. The sort of thing that Abraham Lincoln might have said. It seems to have been used in many other applications, or as nerds would put it, functionalities.

That's a great picture of me, don't you think?
I got into SAR after working at the CBPO, by the way.
P.S. I probably shouldn't have flamed Mimi that one time. It was late and I was drunk. Ah, what the hell though.
Why don't you guys all come over to my place tomorrow for dinner? Beer's on me!

I guess maybe my mind kinda blocked out the memories of Truckee, given the misery.
Actually, I spent a lot of time up there. Almost felt tenured.

Cool turd. I thought I flamed you. I guess we're even.
And Lois, with your penchant for marginal game playing, such interaction makes me feel a wee bit itchy.

I read where they have messed up the bloodhounds so badly, most only live 6 or 7 years.
What causes this? Line breeding too many generations?

Ha! No need for powders, just avoid the cause. It's mainly the psychic hair shirts that I'm worried about. I save the good stuff for me drinking buddies.
EDIT: Yeah, Lois, I'm glad to hear you're not as manipulative as you suggested in that other post.

I hate to break the news to you, but border collies are registered by the AKC. It isn't the AKC so much that ruins a breed; it is people trying to make a quick buck off dogs. Breeders choose (or don't choose) to inbreed dogs. In fact there are responsible breeders who get their dogs checked/tested for certain diseases that are endemic in a breed.
what are traditional type BC's?

Lois,
Please do not say "flying semen around the country" with Ouch (I mean me) in the room.
No one needs to see a picture of that.
