It absolutely has to be trying to make money relating to climbing. Anytime someone starts a little venture that obstensibly could lead to a meager income, they get ripped. Most recently, I saw where Eric Horst got ripped for his MOR cd's. Then a poor guy starts eClimb.net and some idiot makes a "gay" comment and rips the dude for trying to make money at climbing.

More amd more I am getting the impression that a good many climbers are just filthy, freeloading bums who thinks the world owes them and they don't want to pay for anything.

Too right. And most of them would very much dig the endorsement deals Chris Sharma has/has had.

Well I have a question.

Would you agree that the camp4 bathroom graphitti was the first real climbers forum?

To quote AKCLIMBER-

You hit it on the head.

Take a good, hard look at the guy who runs this site. I have no problem with Chris making money with this website. I do have a problem with Chris not telling the truth when asked directly. I defended the guy, and he turned around & turned out to be a complete dirtbag, and a liar on top of it.

So, add LIARS to that little list of yours.

Yeah, WTF?
I think you should have facts before you slander anyone like that.
Although I don't know Chris personally, there are plenty of people here who do.

Besides, since when is making money WRONG?

As Danny Elfman put it:

There's nothing wrong with capitalism
There's nothing wrong with free enterprise
Don't try to make me feel guilty
I'm so tired of hearing you cry

There's nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask me I'll say it's just fine
There's nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
I'm so tired of hearing you whine
About the revolution
Bringin' down the rich
When was the last time you dug a ditch, baby!

If it ain't one thing
Then it's the other
Any cause that crosses your path
Your heart bleeds for anyone's brother
I've got to tell you you're a pain in the ass

You criticize with plenty of vigor
You rationalize everything that you do
With catchy phrases and heavy quotations
And everybody is crazy but you

You're just a middle class, socialist brat
From a suburban family and you never really had to work
And you tell me that we've got to get back
To the struggling masses (whoever they are)
You talk, talk, talk about suffering and pain
Your mouth is bigger than your entire brain
What the hell do you know about suffering and pain . . .

There's nothing wrong with capitalism

akclimber, I agree there was no reason to rip that guy from eclimb. He was trying something different, trying to provide some sort of service. What's the problem?

Yeah, I'm sure.

Glad you guys have no problem with Chris M. making money from climbing. That's the topic here. Thanks for the contribution. Don't give a sh#t about your personal beef with him. That's not the topic here. Nor should it be a topic on this type of forum.

Hey Smokin_Nolens aka SugarLoogie:

How about a new thread so you can enlighten us all about the evils of this Chris Mac guy? Sounds like a pretty bad dude..... Can he really get Caltrans to put up signs? That's power!

chris is a cool cat. cranks hard. his topos rule. he has replaced thousands of anchors. i agree that the more money he may make by all of us here loggin' onto this site will make him powerful...but who gives a fack...he has made the sport safer and he's not nearly as dangerous as "DUH"-BULL-EWWW...

Business, including the climbing business, is amoral. The goal is to maximize short term profits (because in the long term we're all dead). If a person behaves that way, we call them a psychopath. If a business does it, they are a good corporate citizen. Go figure. Chris is a nice guy. Supertopo is a business. Discuss amongst yourselves.

"Chris Mac gets paid every time someone logs into his site. It's all about making money."

HA! what a joke! If you think that to be true why don't you open your own climbing web forum. I'm sure it is a huge lucritive business...

The reality is that Chis puts out a cut of his profits from the topos to keep this forum alive, and the site with all it's cool photos and route beta. Websites are not free...

The books are badass and I'm happy to give $$$ up for several of them.

Chris Mac ruined Lovers Leap, HA! How about California ruined lovers Leap. Wait, since when was the Leap ruined? You don't like California(ns) then get the f*#k out, you got no-one to bleme but yourself.

{end rant}

"As Danny Elfman once said "There's nothin' to fear...but fear itself!!""

I think is was FDR (but you know that).

As Bill once said, "Just because someone said something clever doesn't make it true!" i.e. there may actually be something to fear besides fear.
