Wow! Check you out today, Miss Negative! Who pissed in your Cheerios this morning?! First you attack Arno and now Mel! SHeesh! hahaha
I don't know if I'd say it's portrayed as they used theatrics to control the masses... But, then again, what is any religion-based culture doing? It certainly can't be denied that they did sacrifices, etc. in those HUGE squares, in front of masses of people. So, what would be someone's bitch about Mel portraying reality?
I thought it was cool that he used actual Mayans as the cast in the film.

They seemed pretty psyched about it too, as it did quite a bit for them and their cause. You do realize the plight they're in over there, I assume? But, of course, you wouldn't see that, as you're doing exactly what you're accusing him of doing. The image you posted is rather ironic tho, don't you think?
"And, lemme guess - the Arno stuff is somehow Indian related too, right???"
Arguing with someone who has a closed mind about something is pretty pointless tho, so I'll let you go back to being bitter today. =)

you're wrong
you're right about one thing tho, i am bitter, because if it wasn't for colonization, half of my family would be more accessible to me, as in, sober and not in and out of jail all the time

And somehow, it's not their own fault that they're not sober and in jail? What ever happened to self-accountability? Why does it have to be everyone else's fault?
Since it's closer to being on-topic... Mel went over there and tried to do something good for those folks and you're all down and pissy on him, which seems to be your general theme (and highly out of character for you) this morning. WHat's up? What's bothering you today?
It's kinda like no one can win with this type of topic, right? He gave them the opportunity to make some real money, to experience something new and be treated well. He also gave them the opportunity to get people interested in their culture and their cause. Just how is this a bad thing? Maybe Mel is responsible for all the Mayas that are having similar issues to the native Americans here? Or maybe he should have used non-natives in the film (think Charlton Heston) and we could have watched a bunch of white dudes, with brown makeup run through the jungle. Yeah, that would have made everyone happy, right?
With some topics, there's simply no winning, is there.

LOL! Nef. Kinda like that WOS argument, huh?
mojede, Raydog's correct. I meant not to ridicule at all. I really enjoyed learning about van Daniken's theories. And the Mayan calendar blows me away.
And I'm totally serious about alien intervention. I don't see us getting out of this mess without it.

Interesting bachar. I'll have to check if Kon Tiki also has any relevance.

hahaha. Yeah, you're right, Mimi. =) Just like the WoS thing though, even though we end up on "different sides" sometimes, I'd rope up with any of you, any day. It's all just Inet trash talk, ya know. =)
I've read van Daniken's book too... Interesting stuff. I don't necessarily buy into all of it, but you have to admit there are some points he brings up that simply can't be denied.

Mimi, if the MC is as accurate as it has been for 16+ billion years, then get ready to "meet the neighbors"--however you want to take it.

I went to the Museo Nacional de Antropologia a couple years ago where I took this photo. The "Piedra Del Sol" is huge and weighs tons... very jaw dropping indeed. The other thousands of exhibits kept me enthralled for many hours. If you ever get a chance to go, don't miss out.

RE:
" There seems to be time comparisons within this thread. "
interesting...
so, 2012 is on it's way or perhaps
we are on our way to it??
I have my own feelings about that date,
one of which is that I have to "be someplace",
I keep looking west...
this feeling almost seems like an imperative
At any rate, the whole thing looks like a good excuse for
one helluva party and, no matter how ya cut it,
that can't be bad :)
cheers,
Ray

When I was growing up we had a book of Mexican Art kicking around the house that had a section on the Mayan calendar. I used to pour over that thing because the glyphs were so cool. Now, every year my company prints a t-shirt with the "Tour" dates on the back. These are the start dates of the bigger jobs. We give them out to the clients. The 1994 shirt was a Mayan date.
If I remember correctly the top block is the Introductory Glyph, which is supposed to have one of the nine gods of the underworld in the center. Instead I put the Zanderbuilt Z. I also put the Z in the lower corner where the lineage/city glyph is supposed to be. Even with the changes I think it’s an accurate date, December 4, 1994, if I remember right.
Mayan glyphs are cool. There is a large project going on to catalog every Mayan glyph in existence. I almost bought one of the progress books but even used it was too pricy. Super cool though.
I'd really like to go down there.

Yes it's coming, and Nostradamus along with others have
been incorrect. Earth's sun will not burn out until past 2012.
He < Link > use to monitor an asteroid, though I don't see it?

How did the "sun burning out" come into the conversation ? Whoa, left field, for sure.
Nostradamus and some MSU-Bozeman's guy report on solar flares?
Okay, I'll bite: Polar Bears, the color blue, and radishes--see, I knew you were wrong, I was right and that else nothing matters.
May as well throw in a Metallica reference, since the previous post was so scattered.

Zander, I'm really drawn to the Glyphs too,
to adapt and blend into my own "recreational" art thing etc.
cool, you did that...
RE:

Probably because of different "end of time" prophecies,
I guess; made sense to me but I got nothing emotional
invested in the topic - which is totally cool too, IMO
thanks for posting mojede, good stuff
