Braille Book. A climber using a Soloist decked and broke his arm. YOSAR was inserted and a short haul arranged. But something went wrong and the helicopter dove down the Spire gully with the gurney (and a rescuer on it) being taken into a tree. The injured climber died. I don't know what happened to the rescuer, but it didn't look good. Bad sh#t.

holy crap, are you serious?....damn that is terrible? Why are they using helicopters for people with broken arm's? .......
I suppose they coudn't rule him out for spinal injury's and had to c-spine him also........man, that is terrible..

Morgan-
I really don't like the tone of that post.
There is no guarantee of a rescue if you get hurt climbing. That someone's father/ brother/ son hangs his own ass out of a helocopter to even try to get an injured climber to safety is an admirable thing.
That whole rescue crew could have been a big firey mess in the gulley (copter-fall?) & then what would you have to say?
Climbing is dangerous.
People get hurt.
We all have choices.
Don't confuse heroism & selflessness w/ obligation & implied responsibility.
Poor guy that bought it- my heart goes out to him & his family & his friends & his dog too- but let's keep in mind that the guy took it upon himself to be in a position like that. In fact, the guy- in effect (& obviously w/ out any intention of doing so)- took it upon himself to put that rescue crew in harms way.
Tragic that his rescue was unsuccessful, but not relevant if he was slipping away or not. He chose his own level of risk & he accepted it. The guy might have been better off w/ no rope at all.
I also climb w/ varying levels of risk at different times. Will this accident change my climbing habbits? It may have an effect- I am still reflecting upon it. I certainly don't want some little girls father to buy the farm as a direct result of me biting off more than I can chew...

Come on guys -- rather than looking for any old excuse to flame poor Morgan, can't we just admit that, like it or not, we understand what he's trying to say (even if he could have said it better).
Of all the threads to degenerate into a flame war, this is probably one of the least appropriate.
