"For the record, the Bible does have key info. about Jesus' personal life. It's obvious you haven't read it. Probably not even the CliffsNotes."--mimi
Well, you're wrong. I've read the Bible several times, particularly the New Testament, as for much of my earlier life I was immersed in the Christian faith.
But which version are you referring to? The Greek text? The New International Version? The King James Version? Or the True Bible, before the Church Fathers decided to delete the Gnostic Gospels in that little meeting in Constantinople in 500 A.D.? Because let me tell you something, mimi, they say different things. And it's all open to interpretation.
I understand you feeling the need to come to Werner's defence. I thought Weschrist was rather harsh there also. However, Werner knows what the deal is, and you can see it in his replies. If he let every little slight ruffle his equinimity, he'd never get to where he's going--and he knows where he's going. He knows what he believes in.
Which brings me to my point about the hypocracy of you defending what Christians believe in any way, shape or form. You felt justified in slandering the memory of Mother Teresa--a modern day example of the very essence of what Jesus taught. You had no trouble at all casting doubt on her reputation as a woman dedicated only to helping others, and instead intimated that she was a tool of the Papacy interested only in furthering herself.
And where did you get your plausible information for such an allegation? The Usual Skeptics.
The Usual Skeptics?
People like you make me sick to my stomach. You slander the good and try to twist perception so that there are no heros left, no one to admire, nothing to believe in. And you do it because...just wanted to share a juicy tidbit? Hate Catholics and wanted to shred an icon? I have no idea, nor do I care.
You put opinions out there and when people like AC or Weschrist disagree with you, you start calling them names and threatening to beat them up! I post a happy little video and say it's from AC, and you start hyperventilating and accusing me of a lovefest. For godsake--it's a friggin' Internet forum!!! Get a little perspective, will you?

L, sufferin' succotash woman! You need to get a grip. I guess we'll have to bury this hatchet in the desert down the road.
Peace out.

1. Pathetic response to your slandering Mother Teresa.
2. My grip on reality is fine--it's yours that's in question.
3. Exactly what hatchet do we have to bury? Or do I just interpret this as another one of your cute little threats to "kick arse"?

If all people had the same religion it would provide strong evidence for a divine order to things that we could all count on. But noooooooooo. Instead we've got scads of religions and sub-religions with adherents all at each others' throats down through history, each one preaching ethnocentric doctrines of love and enlightenment at the same time.
So, why would a perfect god lower itself to stir up such a mixed bag down here? What, exactly, is the point? Why is the eternal so shy?

I dreamed I was climbing with Jesus the other day. He was bored out of his skull, he said, as we were soloing Astroman in half an hour. When you're a god, or even just the son of a god, life isn't all that interesting. Omniscience ain't all it's cracked up to be.
When you're a god you're a god all the way
From your All-seeing Eye to your snazzy toupé...
I'm sorry. Concept of 'higher being' not penetrating - does not compute - makes no sense - help - universe losing meaning -
"Help me Jeebus!" says H. Simpson whenever he gets in a jam. Good luck to him, and to all believers.

I'm new to this thread, and have really only skimmed its content. And in the interest of full disclosure, I'll say right up front that I would call myself a "true believer" of a protestant flavor. That being said, I haven't really noticed anybody dealing with the question of Jesus on the terms he himself asserted. What about the claims he made concerning himself, explicit and implicit? Whatever preconceived notions or philosophical or moral precommitments one brings to an examination of Jesus, doesn't real intellectual integrity in that examination begin with clearly understanding Jesus on his own terms? (Of course, this latter thing does assume one has read the Bible cover-to-cover probably more than once).

To which idea in my post exactly are you referring? I hope you're not referring to the flow of the thread in general. I looked through enough of it to know that there really isn't anything like a sound dialectic being developed here. Mainly it's just an exercise in impressionistic opining. So I hope you don't mind if I take a look around. Thanks.
