This country needs all the truly funny people it can get, and the sad thing in this ridiculously polarized, rally-the-dumbasses-who-care-only-about-a-single-lame-ass (relatively speaking nation-wise) hot-button-issue political arena we currently operate in is that going forward Franken will now get even more crucified for things obviously said or written for a laugh. Or, worse, he'll turn off the unique outlook and instinct that got him where he is and simply stop being funny because it's not politically tenable. WTF? You'll never convince me that a gifted comic isn't better for this country than a politician who swallows his natural gifts/beliefs to hold onto an office because he/she buys into some Rove-like, crock of sh#t political playbook. Not saying that will be true of Franken, and I hope to gawd it's not, but we've seen it before all too often, on both sides of the aisle.
And, come on!, this isn't a left or right take at all. P.J. O'Rourke is another man who has caused me to laugh out loud, hard, many a time. ("Holidays in Hell" I highly recommend if you've never read him). If he were a Senator the exact same would or could apply to him.
