Hmm, this is going to blow clean climbing pioneer, DR's theory about the "Atomic Broom" right out of the water, er, flugenshiezer!
See his fine article (link below) on why the Golden Age in the Sierra was possible thanks to some rather big explosions. And now we wonder why the Swiss Arete on Sill is so clean and the Celestial Aretes on Temple Crag so loose and chossy. It all comes into focus.

Since I have lived in Switzerland I have seen a whole new level of dedication to April Fools Day jokes.
Every year, numerous jokes appear in the papers and media on April 1st.
Just like internet trolls, the goal is always to hook as many unsuspecting fish as possible, only to reveal the joke a day or two later.
This year, the Swiss Tourism assn got right into the spirit with the mountain cleaning spot - there were heaps of ads running everyhwere for days...until finally they offically admitted the hoax. As said above, there were lots of applications!
Cheers
Pete.

Thanks Sister, great, all-time spoof there.
Do you think the next April 1 spoof from these geniuses will be to somehow bring together their clean mountains with their perfect chocolate making? Maybe also their Swiss Army knife thingie.
I liked their hunky Switzerland TV ad they ran with female tourists in mind; it showed all these hot young Swiss guys milking cows and doing stuff in their pastures, hilarious. Although often thought of as plodding, the Swiss can be devilishly and impishly funny, I have found.
Oh, and don't get me started again on DR's Escoba de Dios "thing" again. I just checked to see if that thread took place on April 1, but no, it was last autumn, so there is no explanation for DR's daliance there. Stresses me cause he and I are very good friends, for more than 40 years now.
