In a recently prepared table, which lists the number of first ascents made by individual countries of peaks of more than 6,400m, Great Britain is second only to Japan.

To the end of 2008, Japanese expeditions have made first ascents of around 225 peaks, while Britain's tally is 147. India lies third with around 103..

Senior Editor now!!!!! Wow! Did you go up a hat size with that one?

Peaks? pfffft..... Hillwalking and rambling on the moors is hardly something worth penning in on your scorecard.

I still have your room ready over here Mick... it is getter tougher to hold onto as all the old guys are looking to move out here to the Sand.... good weather for bad joints.

Revise the list to alpine style ascents only and see which way the wind blows,..
