A Cardinal facing certain death today was saved by an EMT / college student who has posted here on a number of occasions (and under a number of aliases). A witness reports that the Cardinal had at most minutes left in his life.

Fortunately, his plight was observed in time. Sprung from the jaws of death, the Cardinal took immediate flight. Never saw anything like it.

The evil cat ran around the back yard with the bird in its mouth before finally releasing it, running from the denizen best known from his days posting as rajmit.

Is TIG blowing his son's trumpet? Was it a Cardinal from St Louis? Does anybody even care?

Hey Trad, I still don't get it if you are a Windows/PC person or a Mac person. I know that you are an engineer and quite intelligent in the tech field.

If Mac, I inadvertently switched off my ‘volume’ keys (F10, F11 and F12) on my keyboard and now I have to use the ‘Shift & fn” keys with the aforementioned keys (F10 to mute, F11 to reduce volume and F12 to increase). Not much of an inconvenience, but still one.

Having started a couple of OT Mac query threads in the past, I do not want to start another one (as it shows me up to be the dummy that I am) but if you are au fait with Macs, any idea how I can go back to just using the F keys without the Start/fn? I have looked in the help file and googled but I cannot seem to find the answer, which is probably really simple, but after all, I am a simpleton.

Had me for a minute - I thought this was about someone prying a Catholic cleric off a small boy.

Dunno. My son is out right now. He is the Mac guy. I'm Unix and PC mostly...

Left for his bird shortly after saving the red one!

That cat must have been a bird dog in an earlier life! :-)

Ricky, that made me laugh, sort of.

Unfortunately, that topic is a big issue in Ireland at the moment (re: the Ryan Report).

From grades 1-7 I attended Catholic schools (St Francis de Sales in Oakland - grades 1 and 2) and St Mary's in Walnut Creek (3-7) before I got kicked out.

I was glad to go to a public school after that.

But this is off topic and thread drift, I till want to know more about the Cardinal.

EDIT
TIG, how is his education going? When does he graduate? I know I have been a bit harsh on him in the past but he seems to be maturing. Best wishes to the both of you.

I like cardinals. I keep 2 feeders stocked and have a few couples around.
A male looking for a nesting place keeps peering in my windows and pondering my porch-light. He has even taken to staring at me in my bathroom.
No privacy for my morning ablutions.

More about that Cardinal. It was squealing when the cat started running with it, so we knew it was still alive.

Big difference between 14 and 19. :-) Dean's List as Freshman at U Miami. B and C in Bio. Everything else A or A-. Transferring this year. Plans to major in math or math / computational finance.

Waiting to hear from one more school. Will be back up north, either in NYC or Pittsburgh.

We have cardinals nesting in the holly trees. Also a pair of catbirds, one of which likes to rap his beak on the living room window once in a while.

He might be a cat-mocking bird!

EDIT:
Short list of birds seen in the back yard.
Vulture
Wild Turkey
Cooper's Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
Bald Eagle (flying over only, not landing)
Cardinal
Blue Jay
Goldfinch
Catbird
Pileated Woodpecker
Carolina Finch?
Wren
Red-bellied woodpecker
Nuthatch
Black Capped chickadee
Robin
Red-winged blackbird (that was a surprise!)
Mourning Dove
Great Horned Owl (OK, front yard on that one).
