So, I was able to sneak away from work on Sunday and decided to make it a weekend in Bishop. The original plan was for Kelly (my girlfriend) and I to leave early Thursday morning, but plans changed and we didn't get out of town until late. The good news was the lifts in Mammoth were opening, so skiing was the new plan for Friday.
Me working on my tele turn
Kelly enjoying the view.
The view from mid way was excellent!
It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
Friday night we headed to Bishop to take in the Glen Denny show. I enjoyed it very much and even got a Christmas gift for a good friend. Kelly, who is rather new to climbing, said she enjoyed the stories, especially about Harding.
Saturday it was off to Pine Creek and the PSOM Slab. I've been slowly teaching Kelly about muti-pitch climbing and today was the exam. It was decided we would climb the PSOM Pinnacle, which the new Bishop guide says is a three pitch 5.8***.
It was nice when we started.
The route is just above where the shadow meets the ground on the right side of the face in the center of the picture.
The approach.
My one shot.
Here's the first pitch, which follows the main crack up.
Not much pro, but it went well.
Kelly following.
The first pitch was the crux for me and Kelly said the second was hers. The second pitch (5.6) finishes up the crack from the first, then traverses on a 4th class ledge to the right. The third pitch (5.8) was an awesome jam/ lieback crack to the top of a large flake (The pinnacle). Sorry no pictures, I was busy coaching and Kelly wanted to focus on belaying (which was fine with me). The weather was also setting in (see later picture).
Here's a shot of the opposite side of the pinnacle and also the 5.6 finish for "Serious But Not Desperate" a runout 10a.
This was Kelly's first muti-pitch climb and she still liked me afterward.
It was a bit colder and windier when we came out.
But, I spotted a line for next time (Hint its the right crack that heads over the roof).
Sunday, we got a late start after a night of beer, wine, and bowling in Bishop. Kelly was beat from the past two days, so it was off to the Buttermilks for a bit of bouldering for me.
Attempting Iron Fly.
And Flyboy
The views were excellent
Sadly work calls for Monday morning, but we both decided we should head back very soon.

Yeah, everything at the main lodge was going. When we left Bishop this afternoon it looked like more snow was falling (crossing fingers for a great winter).

Erik, Glen Denny showed the childhood pictures of you and mentioned how you became an excellent climber. He also mentioned meeting you recently.

Nice TR,
Sadly, with my back the way it is now I may never ski again but I think I may just need to take a look at those climbs. Thanks for posting.

Sweet pictures! I wish the lifts in WA were opening already! Not a bad weekend when you can get turns in and good weather climbing.
