Howdy Chris-

Here's a reason to spend a nice fall weekend in the Valley and not have to wonder what to do during the long nights:

The Balanced Rock Foundation is presenting the 2008 Telluride Mountainfilm Tour in two screenings: 7 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 7 and Sat., Nov. 8 at the El Portal Elementary School. All proceeds benefit Balanced Rock Foundation and the El Portal School PTA.

I'm particularly psyched on a few films with a Yosemite angle: the seminal dirtbag epic "Fitzroy", by Lito Tejada-Flores, chronicling the 1968 Funhog ascent of the Fitz; "Learning To Fly", a CMac BASE extravaganza; and "Black Canyon", in which a well-lubricated Leonard Coyne tells us all how it f#'n is. Numerous shorts from around the world round out the offerings.

Bring a comfy chair if you've got one, and your favorite grown-up beverage, and join us for some mountain kultcha!
Yummy food and drink will be available as well.

I think Link is gonna be able to make it to introduce his film Learning To Fly...a doc about everybody's favorite webhost/guidebook author and his first year of BASE jumping.

Y'all should check it out!

Pizza, dessert, coffee, etc. will be there too.

Saw "Fitzroy", by Lito Tejada-Flores many years back, or at least a slide show version given by him. Great story!

I was told that attending the film fest in El Portal tonight or tomorrow would increase my on sight ability a full letter grade. From 5.6b to 5.6c.
Has anyone experienced a similar phenomena at other climbing film fests?
