I know the precip has been copious in many areas this winter. I am leaving the states for the summer and would love to make it into the Sierras before I go. I dont mind hiking/skinning through snow with a sled. What options are possible in the Sierras? Could any of the roads be plowed in the next few weeks?
thanks,
Josh

Jman, I hope you don't mind me asking this on your thread...But I heard some of the best ice climbing in the Sierras are in the late summer. Could someone fill me in on the details here? Maybe email me some info?

I very much doubt anything in the Sierra proper will be accessible due to the huge snowfall this winter. Lots of sport climbing and bouldering will be accessible on the East Side. Maybe Cardinal Pinnacle or something like that, but plowing is just getting going this time of year.

sorry for the hijack, but since you asked: the Feather Peak couloir, couloirs on Mts Thompson, Gilbert,Dana, Red Slate, Red and White, Mendel, and North Peak. a varitable plethora of routes.

plowing just started on Tioga Pass. no estimate as to when the pass will open.

A freind on Search and rescue recently help out the boys down near the ditch and one of them said they were hoping to get Tioga open about the 3rd week of June. My partners and I all agree we're about 5 to 6 weeks behind usual for snow melt. Good for the water table and there's enough stuff to climb, you just have to drive a little farther.
