question,

How do you place a Crack'n up? Looks like there is nothing to hammer on!?

How does this ebay thing work. How do I know I will get what I buy? How do I pay?

Lambone,

You don't hammer Crack 'N Ups in general - though the desire to do so is there at times and was likely why Bridwell was cutting one side off (and because a few folks caught them in the face). They are meant to be hand placed and then cam because of the offset shank (like a Pika Toucan). The offset shank is also the problem with cutting one side off - once you do it you cut the placement options down by half; on the other hand you aren't staring a sharp blade in the eye while you're using it.

While designed for aid, I've free climbed on mine since they were first made and always have three or four on my rack when climbing. They are bomber once you know how to place them. I took a 30 footer onto a #3 once, though you really need to set them up quite differently for free climbing then for aid:

I’ve been following a lot of your posts and come to the conclusion that you’re an old time pro with a lot of experience.

Werner,

Given the source, I'll take that as high compliment - thanks. Yes, I've been around for quite a few years now, but have never been on much in the way of granite or big stone. Will be getting a much belated comeupance on both in the Valley this year so I'm sure I'll be finding out how well all that experience translates into vertical travel in the "real" world...

That is one tricked out piece. Is this the free setup you're talking about?

What's the swaged cable all about?

That's it. The [badly] swaged cable is just for racking otherwise these babies hangup on everything, especially the outside of your thigh.
