If you're interested in the geology of tor and Bornhardt landscapes like Joshua Tree, City of Rocks, Buttermilks, Vedauwoo, etc. etc., you might enjoy my new book - just published by the Idaho Geological Survey:

http://www.idahogeology.org/products/reverselook.asp?switch=title&value=Etched_in_Stone:_The_Geology_of_City_of_Rocks_National_Reserve_and_Castle_Rocks_State_Park,_Idaho

No royalties for me, it's purely an academic thing. Just wanted to get the word out.

It sounds interesting. Can it be bought at the store in (forgot name of tiny town)?

There's a summary of the book on the Geological Society of America website at http://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2007AM/finalprogram/abstract_124136.htm, which make it sounds quite interesting.

Yes, I wrote the book. The link that mightyhiker found is to an abstract from a GSA session that was focused on "Communicating geology to the public in National Parks". That abstract is a pretty good summary of the book's philosophy and contents. Although it's focused on the City, the landform evolution stuff is broadly applicable to many granite climbing areas. It's available through the IGS or at the COR visitor center. If anyone reads it, I'd love to have feedback.
