I was just emailed this news:

Like to let you know, Jack McBroom 46 Hemet, California school teacher just obliterated the record for climbing all of California's 14,000 foot mountains. There are fifteen of them. He did it in 4 days 11 hours and 19 minutes. Starting on August 10th. at 02:10 for South Lake above Bishop and finishing at Mt. Shasta in northern California on August 14th. at 13:20 (1:29 pm). The record was first set in 1998 by the famous speed climber Hans Florine in 9 days 10 hours 50 minutes. Last August of 2001 Josh Swartz 25 years, old did it in just under six days, 5 days 23 hours and 41 minutes. Everyone thought was untouchable. McBroom is also an ultra runner. Did the Bad Water to Mt. Whitney. He did the Ego Challenge last year in New Zealand. Jack thinks he might go under four days next summer. I was his solo crew member. Well, my 1992 Toyota 4x4 was also a big help. - Paul McGuffin, Green Valley, AZ

As a note, McBroom climbed Shasta last in 5 hr. 57 mi. 37 sec.

Very impressive! I am pleased that he is so fit at his age. I started climbing at 47 and have been able to do many Yosemite classics ( thanks to my son Matt ). I have also done Whitney and Shasta in my 50s. Although I am 56 I feel in a sense I've just started living- in fact just became certified scuba a year ago. So thanks for sharing the info- it may inspire someone to start living!

way cool! lets not forget the 80 something dude in CO (I think) who's climbed over 5000 peaks (all of the big ones, not just the anthills) and started climbing in his forties..
Info like this is way inspiring!

That's inspiring. I started climbing in my early 50s and feel better than I have ever felt. I am not gunning for this guy's record however! :-)
