These are always great. Has anyone here ever tried one of the small electric helicopters with camera?

(in another window I'm already starting research, but...)
How does one go about taking the photo? Is there some sort of RC device?
show us the flying rig!

Yup, radio controls the swivel and camera tilt, and triggers the shutter. I use a cheap 4-channel job meant for model airplanes.
This is attached to the kite-string in two places (3-4 feet apart) about 100' below the kite. These shots were from 300' up the line.
The pink ribbon is tied to the end of the antenna-stick to help me tell which way the camera's pointed.
Some folks have used RC helicopters to get shots. Probably a Bozo-No-No in Joshua Tree though.

Pretty neat. I attached a digital camera to the ego of a ProBlogger that was hanging out in El Cap Meadow, and I got a few good shots which you can see at

Pretty cool.
How big is your kite?
Any way to learn more about doing this, or is it all hard earned trade secrets?
Phenomenal stuff.

Nice rig. Is that the string in the last pic?
Nice paving job they did up there. Are the outlet stores coming soon?

Yup. These guys ( http://steel.ced.berkeley.edu/cris/kap/discuss/ ) answered all my questions without me even having to ask them. Most of the stuff they talk about goes right over my head, though.
I have two kites, one 16 sq ft parafoil I use when the wind gets up over about 12 mph, and a delta (like the plastic "bat kites" we flew when we were kids, but it's nylon and has a 9' wingspan) for calmer winds.
It's easier to do than you may think. Until last fall, I had not flown a kite in 30 years at least. Single-line kites like these are meant to fly themselves. Unless the winds are really tricky, I will anchor the line once the camera's up so I can walk around and get a better look at where the camera's pointing.
Good luck!

Nice. They remind me that I haven't been there in a long time - I see the roads have been changed and paving added! The new config looks good.

Cool links from the other posts. I didn't realize that the white "seam" in the last photo was your kite string, until I saw in your first thread a similar white line as the "self portrait".
