Hey all,
We're thinking about heading there this winter. I would love any beta you have. Were to fly into, stay, eat, climb, pictures, etc.
Thanks,
Prod.

Check out the website that leeper sent, and contact Luis at La Posada. It's an excellent place to say, with little rooms of varying price, and a nice casita if you go with a significant other and/or want a bit more room. You can also just camp there if you want, and with the cost of the space you have use of a very large and comfortable kitchen fully stocked. You can store your food there. There are plenty of places to stay in El Potrero, but we thought La Posada (and Luis, who speaks excellent English) was great. They also have a really good restaurant.
Fly into Monterrey, and Luis will have someone pick you up at the airport. On the way to El Potrero, stop in Hidalgo for food and beverages, and there is only a very basic food stand in El Potrero. Driver probably won't speak English, so some Spanish is helpful.
Have an excellent time...it's fun, and I think a lot of the loose rock has been cleaned off over the years, although there is still a lot. Wear a helmet, and just bring lots of draws!

i went last Feb -
awesome!!! great multi-pitch stuff. really beautiful limestone.
flew to Monterrey and rented a car - got really ripped off from the rental place ultimately;
if i did it again i would take the shuttle to the Potrero;
we rented a casita from Luis and felt like it wasn't worth the cost he was charging - I would plan on a tent;
also there are other locals who are renting rooms if you need one / weather gets really sour - they are cheaper and nicer; you can shop around for one once you are down there.
As a whole do NOT book or pay for anything until you are down there and have a look around / get the scene sussed out.
70m rope is helpful and many draws.
Are u planning on going elsewhere in Mex other then Potrero? If so, i can give you more beta on some cool stuff we did after climbing.
Feel free to email me at nsgdsm@earthlink.net.

We went down last Feb. It was great! We stayed at La Posada (Luis's place). I suspect Luis may be overpriced as NG mentioned but you know what? It's EASY and it's still cheap. Also our luggage didn't all arrive - Yeah, the climbing gear of course. Luis called the airport as soon as the shuttle dropped us off and we had our gear by 1:00pm the next day.
We were glad to "have the scene sussed out" ahead of time so we could go climbing. We met some friends from Boulder who did not have an easy time finding a room.
La Posada was kid friendly also. We went w/ our 5 yr old daughter. She had a riot climbing and Luis found a sitter for us so we could do some multi-pitch days.
Good luck.

Good to hear positive comments about Luis. He's a great guy, and he gets it. I've been traveling extensively in Mexico basically since '69, and speak fluent Spanish...but not only does Luis speak English, he gets Gringos, and will go the extra mile to make sure you have a great trip. Worth the extra money in my mind. But like I say, you can camp there for cheap, and still get to take advantage of all La Posada has to offer.
Renting a car in Mexico is generally not worth the cost unless you plan on using it a lot....I think we paid 40$ each way to and from the airport. And we missed our connection flight to Monterrey, and our driver waited 4 extra hours for us...no extra charge, and then took us food shopping in Hidalgo...again, part of the deal. Of course we gave him a decent tip, but still......
Anyway, fun rock....sun when you want it, shade when you want it. We were there towards the end of March...a bit hot in the sun, but up high there was usually a breeze at least. Gnarly centipedes....don't get bitten by them!
