Link,
Some friends and I were wondering if it would be legal to hook up a car to a battery operated electric fence to keep bears away? One would have to pound a ground stake into the ground near the vehicle and wire it up properly. This would create a rig that would zap any uninsulated thing that touched the vehichle. Since bears like to lead with there nose, this should be a nice deterint to their desire for ripping a car to pieces. The electric fence system wouldn't kill anything since it is designed to shock and deter.
Thanks

DMT,
I don't think that it is a perfect solution, but it might move the critter to the next car. I also would use all the other methods to keep from having the car ripped apart.

As for the theives... what you'll need:

1. Car w/ a rack visible in the back.
2. Shotgun w/ a few rounds of rock salt
3. Itchy trigger finger
4. Bush to hide behind

A 12 volt battery to shock a bear, try this on your late model car, $3000 electronic repair bill on your hand and the C4 bear is eating your food looking at you saying..#$$K #$$K

voltage doesnt hurt a bit... its the current that will get em..
12 volts may be low but you can put quite a bit of potential in a nice 1farad capacitor run off the battery.. surely enough to stop a bear and enoough to at least hospitalize a human.. that would maybe end the steelin stuff in the valley as well.
