(and the next page) can help you estimate the amount of water needed. Breathing will cost you about 1 liter of water per day (hyperventilation due to altitude increases insensible water loss). Normal excretion and low exercise will cost you another 1.5 liters or so. Heavy exercise with heavy clothing as high as 2 liters per hour!

Basic chemistry can give you the energy needed to melt snow and raise the temperature of the water.

Google the energy content of your chosen fuel.

I'm not sure why someone would plan a multiday mountaineering trip to Rainier without being solid at snow-camping first, but now that we've got that out of the way :) see marky's response above. If the snow is more consolidated, then you may end up using less than that, but it's always wise to come prepared.

I was wondering when I would get a lashing for asking the question.
But it has been some time since I did this sort of thing. The Ez thing is to bring way to much sh#t get tired and give up /run out and be F#*!
But since that is not an option I thought I would ask advice of others and make my own informed decision.
I had figured 5 to 8 oz but wanted to see what the Taco might say.

So thanks for your response Rhyang

No worries robman, and no lashing was intended. I know how difficult it must be to snowcamp in wasangeles environs, especially with the dry winter and all. Good luck on Rainier - hope you have good weather (always a crapshoot up there - got stormed off on my first attempt).
