Was just informed that Hugh Banner passed away Monday morning. Unfortunately, I don't know much more than that.
I was fortunate enough to have shared many meals, phone calls and days standing at trade shows with Hugh and I'm very glad to have known him as well as I did. He taught me a lot about climbing gear and was one of the last-remaining, old-school British gentleman.
I will fondly remember Hugh Banner and wish his family well.

This is so sad for me. I go a long way back with Hugh and Maureen and have fond memories of our time spent together. One of the best days of my life was climbing at Gogarth with Hugh, then making the mad dash back to the Manchester airport in his Pugeot 905 (think go-cart with a 200 HP engine) at breakneck speed. It didn't help that I'm a hopeless left-side driver and kept mashing what should have been the brake pedal in a desperate but futile attempt to slow the bastard down.
I'll miss you Hugh. RIP.

Sorry to hear about Hugh Banner, my condolences to the family.
In 1991 I boughht a couple sets of HB cams and a few sets of offsets, I still have the cams on my rack they are the best!
Thanks for the great gear Hugh.
Sincerely,
Tony

Michael:
Thanks for posting this. The climbing community has lost a wonderful soul. Hugh was a great man and we'll miss him.
I enjoyed having had the opportunity to know him and spend time with him. His ideas and observations about climbing gear and history were a pleasure to listen to.
My condolences to Maureen.

Another piece of rough news unwelcome. Condolences to friends and family as this seems rather sudden. I remember HB from the old Valley days when Camp Four was inescapably international and packed with characters.
The tools that Hugh designed and produced have had a major effect on the safety, scope and success of my clean climbing efforts. A heartfelt thanks HB and rest in peace......

I learned a lot about gear design and marketing from Hugh. I'll miss seeing him at the shows.
