Does anyone have any idea where Steve might be?
I lost track of him in 2000.
I would really appreciate even a remote lead.
Thanks.

Ray,
Try contacting Rock Thompson or Josh Blumenthal (Pika). They may know where to find him.

Raydog hasn't posted here since October of '08, so a response now seems unlikely. Then again, yesterday it would have seemed unlikely that the son of the target of this request from 2007 would post here.

Got some Smiley nuts from Richard Harrison. Said it was part of the payment for his expert testimony. I didn't get into it with him, but do tell if you know...think it was a patent infringement type of thing.

The story I heard was that Wild Country was suing Smileys stating that their nuts were the same. Wild Country nuts are set #1-9. It was an absurd lawsuit since Smileys nuts were a direct copy of Black Diamonds #1-13 Stoppers but were anodized. Smileys kept winning the lawsuit but Wild Country kept appealing. DMM eventually purchased Wild Country and dropped the lawsuit absurdness, but Steve ran out of money and some of the Smileys gear then got absorbed by Omega Pacific. Shortly after, Black Diamond anodized their Stoppers.
I like Steve! He was really cool to talk to about climbing gear.

Please Joshwbellutah, could you pass on my very best wishes from Corsica to your Father. Stephen Carman very generously sent a set of his most innovative Smiley’s Wedgies Slung to me in July 1994!
