The last of November, Arno and I drove to Whitesides to do the Matrix. This climb is 8 or 9 pitches and mixed. The top several pitches are on the headwall. The thing never lets up and was fun fun fun!

Here are a few photos from that day. Though it was the end of November, we were baking hot. It was awesome!

Having a great time! We are the most fortunate people to be able to climb.

I like this shot because you can see the headwall coming up. It's a lot further to the top than it looks from here. See all the dried vegetation on the wall? The thing hadn't been done in a long time. I have all sorts of lichen or whatever that is in my hair and all over! Think I consumed a fair amount as well. :)

Cool photo of Arno as he is preparing to take off. I like the effect that this picture has. Plus, for once, it's not a butt shot of him. :)

We got to the top just in time to see the sunset. Beautiful day, beautiful climb and fantastic fun.

I can't wait to get back out to Whitesides and do some of the other climbs like Little Miss Dangerous and the OR.

That's a girl, keep passing the ball, and shoot to score.

Just see, it's a great game ..........

Near the top, I encountered this enormous roof. At least it felt enormous by that time. Ha!

thanks for the TR, I don't know to be happy or sad that there are so many places to climb that I haven't climbed yet...

That looks OUTSTANDING! But where the heck is that? I imagine it is nowhere near St. Louis.

EDIT: I found it in another thread - the 'bump yer thread" thread: NC. Looks like lots of fun!

Great pics Crimp. These kinds of pictures, the places, the people, I swear, it makes me want (more) to become a climbing bum.

Whitesides looks like a great place to climb and I know Arno has put up some bold routes there. I have been listening to his book on CD (Highly recommended folks!) and he talks about Whitesides a bit.

It's cold now in Memphis and the itch to climb is growing stronger. Gotta get out West or East, somewhere out of this flat river bottom.

You can actually see Whitesides (it's near Highlands, North Carolina) if you go to Google earth and 'fly' there. Really cool. I am looking forward to getting back.

L asked where in STL I live - I live in Pasadena Hills near UMSL. One mile south of 70. Easy to get into and out of town. And oh, do I dream of getting out of town!

Great TR Crimper!
You look rather casual on that "roof". The benefit of global warming- shirt sleeves forever. Thanks for reporting in.
