Wondering what you all think of the via ferrata put up on Tram Face at Squaw by Adrian Ballinger/Alpenglow. Looks like it will be "professionally guided half and full day tours" aka a $$$ maker, unlike the classic routes of the Dolomites and other places in the Alps where you just jump on and go. I recognize that this is the US and tourists will sue if they twist an ankle, however, so they need some babysitting and gear and this comes with a price.
A good way of introducing newbies to the great outdoors and climbing? Or something else? What say you cynics? I'd consider taking my young kids on it to stoke their interest of climbing.

Mammoth installed one this summer - actually a few routes, as well as a swinging bridge. They are located on the "Oh Sh#t Cliffs", skier's right of Roger's Ridge. If they can cover the mountain with chair lifts, why not some steel bars in a chossy cliff?

Like charging for mountain biking at ski areas, just another way to generate year round revenue. Meh, don't care; people that want to pay for it, fine. Like mountain biking, one doesn't need to go to a ski area to climb. As I wrote on the Mammoth via ferrata thread, no way I'd pay for it.
For those that aren't able/knowledgeable to climb without a guide, it's a good thing to get them on the rock and enjoy the experience.

If it stabilizes the ski economy then it is a good thing, keeps season passes cheap. relatively harmless if they don't scrub too much lichen off the walls.

Is the ski area requiring poop tubes or can the ferratees dump when they feel like it...? If so , do the guides provide ponchos...?

Your local NFS pit toilet is ready and waiting

For the second time, Gary Moody, 49, of Maine, was arrested over Memorial Day weekend for climbing into a pit toilet in the White Mountain National Forest, in the same location where he was arrested for the same crime in 2005.
According to The Smoking Gun, a young boy was alarmed when he went to the outhouse and saw that the toilet had been moved. What was even more alarming was the head of Moody peering out of it. He reportedly told the boy, "man, sorry about that, I was getting my shirt." He was later seen leaving the scene, soaking wet
