Hi All

Living in the UK is great but as a potential big waller theres not much in the way of videos to wet the appetite, do any of you have any recommendations?

"Big Stone" has some sweet footage of freeclimbing on big walls. The section that includes Jason Campbell climbing Moonlight Buttress is fantastic. I don't know of that many vids that feature hardcore aid climbing though.

Drive Yourself Up a Wall is the best one I know of. It's about a solo ascent of Zodiac. Last I heard it's out of print, but there are probably a hundred copies in circulation. It might become available if I, er, they run off more copies. It being free makes it the best value of any climbing video. Checking periodically with Supertopo.com is a good way to monitor the status of this fun flick.

I have this video called "El Capitan". Its pretty old, but very cool...
Three climbers and a cameraman, whom you never see, climb the nose, old school style. You know, gunny sack haul bag, tons of iron etc...
I dont know where you can get it, cause i got it from an older friend of mine who doesnt remember where he got it. It has Lito Tejeda-Flores, Gary Colliver, and Richard Mckraken in it. Forgive me if i got the names wrong or misspelled them i havent seen it in a while.

In "Masters of Stone II" by Eric Perlman, there is good sequence of Rick Lovelace making the first one-day solo of Zodiac. It also has some staged A5 falls (the haul bag acts as the climber, fortunately) and some classic lines from Lovelace such as "[paraphrase] If its A5, you are gunna die. So you just don't fall." I don't think you can buy this vid, but you can rent it at some climbing shops and/or climbing gyms.

For overall aid climbing instruction you can't beat "The video guide to Aid Climbing" hosted by Don Reid. This vid should be available for rent or sale at climbing shops that carry aid climbing equip.

If you can find it, the old video "Free Climb" about Jim Erickson and Art Higbee on Half Dome is f*#king exquisite. Gives you a feel for what us "old" guys endured. We are your masters young pups, bow down and pledge fealty to the old school. Mwahahahahahahah!!!!

I just ordered the old 'El Capitan The Nose' film from Chessler.com

I saw footage from it in Lynn Hill's 'Freeclimbing The Nose' video (which is very good) and can't wait to see it.

Chris McNamara...
I thought you were involved with a recent video that had some footage of the Nose featured in it. True or false?

Yeah, its a video being put together by Peloton Productions. It is still in post-production and still in need of TAX DEDUCTABLE contributions.

Get more info at http://www.pelotonproductions.com/home.htm This movie is going to kick ass. It has most quality interviews (and sound bites) of Yosemite legends you have ever seen.
